My Sony 26' LCD TV has very crappy sound, as crappy as my 24' Onida LCD TV.
So, I thought of diverting the audio to Onkyo AVR.

I tried connecting headphone OUT of Sony to AVR Aux in. The output volume from the AVR was very, very low.
I then tried connecting Analog L-R Audio out of Sony to RCA inputs of AVR. The AVR audio volume was still low.

I tried reading a thread similar to this issue, without much help: http://www.hifivision.com/amplifier...en-mp3-player-connected-2-way-stereo-amp.html
Not sure how to resolve this. Would someone recommend suggestions to fix this?
Note that both these settings work very well with the Onida TV

I would try a couple of things
  • Try a different Input on the AVR e.g. if you're using AUX1, try AUX2
  • Clean the contacts on the avr / cable
  • Try a different cable

What I would suggest you is get a new/used pair of Bose 2.0 multimedia speaker set which has inbuilt amplifier and use the 2 RCA cables and connect it. I have used the same for my sony bravia 32" tv and the sound is very good from Bose speakers, the stereo is very clear and too good compared to the crap tv speakers. No need to switch on use the AVR which consumes a lot of power. The Bose speakers or any other 2.0 with inbuilt amplifier will consume less power and sound better than AVR as it is just the stereo.

Thanks
