Dear hifians,

I want to know the average panel failure rates(average time of panel failure from the date of purchase of the new tv) for sony and samsung or any other problem that occur in the tv during the usage along with breakup of cost of replacement of new spare part and service charges etc..(for 32 inch and 40 inch tv)

Which among sony and samsung tend to be more customer friendly and show more promptness when there is a problem in the customer's end.

Thanks in advance

Until this month Sony and Samsung operated S-LCD company in Korea as a joint venture. Sony sold its share of the business to Samsung. Sony will continue to buy panels from Samsung, thus giving Sony the ability to buy at market prices, and not expose them to manufacturing off-shore risk. The panels are very much the same, meaning you cannot tell them apart until they are marked.

The MTBF is about 100,000 hours for these TFT panels. The MTBF of other parts of the TV are probably lower. The only time you would replace a panel is when it is covered by warranty. The stiff markups in the TV parts business would price the panel very near the replacement cost of the entire set.

As far as service is concerned, the factories operate very few service centers worldwide. You local servicer is an independent dealer, and their promptness depends on their attention to customer service.

Buy the set, hopefully if it has adequate ventilation, and the ambient temperature and humidity are maintained, you should be able to enjoy it for a decade.
