Hi,

I have a very old grand dad's gerrard record player I need to get repaired.

The platter won't spin normally anymore.
Almost jams at the lowest record speed.

Is there any specialist repair shop/person in delhi who can fix this?

:sad::rolleyes:

hey @reubensm you're an angel in disguise ... seriously:licklips:

i have exactly the same model RC210 like in my DP

if you want i can whatsapp you more pics

I don't think its damaged at all ... its just that it was kept idle for years more than 10 years i guess so any rubber parts must be melted or something

changer works too i guess

the platter is jammed

as a child i used to play with it and think it to be stupid and antique as we kept graduating from this to cassettes to CDs to digital collection

but now i understand the value from the FLACs lol

quite a rewind !:ohyeah::lol:

The RC210 is perhaps the best looking record changer from Garrard and also, perhaps the most robust. However it has a complex mechanism which took my brother and I a lot of time to fix. You will need to find a good mechanic who is experienced, if you want this turntable to be properly restored. Its a very old model, from the 1950s and is a treat to watch when it plays. At first I thought I will fix it and sell it off but somehow my mind does not permit me to do that, so I've decided to keep it.

Your turntable probably needs a good service and replacement of a few parts. Please try to get this done locally. If you are good at DIY, then you can attempt to take a look by yourself. First step would be to down load the service manual and study it.

Unfortunately, I am as old fashioned as the turntables that I own and don't use a smartphone. Hence the only way of reaching pictures to me is by email ([email protected])

thanks! @reubensm

will see about the DIY and sending pictures Im not poor at DIY that's all I can say but the spare parts is a issue

Its with a local sardar ji repair guy right now for 2 months. He's a very skilled guy and said he can try to repair but also said the spare parts if needed would be a problem as its an antique now

so still have hopes...will check soon with him about the status

haven't tried to open it yet but would you know what spins the platter? motor or belt or both? are the mechanics of rc210 very different than the modern TTs?

The RC210 (RC stands for Record Changer) does not have a belt. The motor drives an intermediate rubber wheel called the idler which in turn engages the inner of the platter side and turns it. The platter in turn, engages the spindle assembly and other mechanicals which gets the auto-changer part to run. Hence the condition of the rubber idler wheel is key to the turntable's functionality. Here is a picture of a similar idler wheel and motor pulley from a record changer (this is not the RC210, but looks similar):

The mechanicals of changers are more complex when compared to standard record players and turntables. They work on a maze of levers and cogged wheels :)
