Friends,

Recently i bought Denon 1612 along with Monitor Audio BR-2 bookshelves. Planning to complete 5.1 setup asap. Though BR-2 series is very good, seems i crave for more in a limited budget. Following are the options i thought:

1. Buy FS + Sub + Center & use BR-2 as surrounds (love FS, but stays in rented apartment)
2. Buy surrounds + sub + center & use BR-2 as mains

if option 1, then what shall be the best combo deal? If option two, please guide best sub & center that matches with BR-2. Heard that velodyne 12 is good, but BIC is better. The problem with BR-2 which i faced are:

1. Sound is not that bright (maybe because of room acoustics or present audio settings)
2. Some details are missing
3. Couldn't find a stand for the speakers & still search is on
4. Require high quality songs to perform good

I heard that wharf, tannoy or jamo are good option.. My max budget is 40-45 K & room size 125 sq ft approx, experts please guide...:)

Pran.

I feel that a 5.1 in 125 Sq Ft room will be an overkill.
Why dont you first correct the existing flaws in your Stereo set up and then move on to 2.1 and finally 5.1

1) I think stands will greatly enhance the SQ. A photo of existing set up will give a better idea.
2)Add a Sub if you feel the need but you mentioned that you do not find brightness in your existing set up. So a sub may not solve that .
3) Go for 5.1 only after completing above

Jagdish,

Thanks for your valuable suggestion. I thought in the same way as you said, could you please suggest some decent subs in 15-25 K range. Couldn't upload photos as i'm wrapping up things due to job relocation to Delhi. The major prob with BR-2 is i'm unable to place it properly due to non availability of stand (rather say so expensive online). I put them up on my almirah & always look up to listen :(. Before i bought these pairs, i had auditioned polk tsi 300 & Jamo series, violet, jbl, pioneer etc.. 300 was a good bet for me due to tight budget. To be frank, though i'm an ardent fan of sound, no option to shell out lacs for HT system now due to budget constraint (my led tv costed around 50k which ate major chunk). Planning to shell out max 25-40 k to complete the setup (slowly, but sub on immediate basis) Please guide me to get a good pair of stand & sub.. Also, i have not done fine tuning yet apart from audessy (though i'm slowly going manual), your valuable inputs shall help me to get the chunk out of my existing setup... As far as wires are concerned i use DAC SPK-12.

@ Crisp: Thanks for your reply dude.. i bought the amp 2 months back, can't even dream of selling it now. :(

Pran Kumar,
Sorry I do not have any experience on Subs so cant comment.
Regarding stands the price variance is mind boggling - one of the quotes I got was for 35 K (Branded).

From reading various posts on the Forum I got the idea that we can go for locally made Stands and will cost around 7k / Pair. These should be sturdy and heavy ( The pipe can be filled with sand) to give a good sonic performance.
I guess FMs from Kolkata will have to give the inputs on where to buy stands

Edit: The Front Speakers - Tweeter height should approx the listeners ear height for the best sound image.

Thanks a tonne pkr.. Will definitely try.

@ Prosenjit: dude, my avr and speakers are just 2 month's old.. Must say that speakers are awesome, but little details are missing which are only audible through earphones. You know that hifi brands like usher is not available in Kolkata and is damn expensive. Heard a lot about kef, need to go for an audition (owner of profx is a friend of mine) By the way, what's your email id, mine is pran.kumar@ ymail.com.

usher is avilable in kolkata for demo and for sale in harmony audio new alipore....the owner is also a nice person and very helpful...
but yes it is really expensive...

Recently I got mail from harmony audio for the same. Can anyone suggest a good sub for me within 25k?

In you budget these are the options

Wharfedale PowerCube SPC-8 Subwoofer Rs. 24000/-

Wharfedale DIAMOND SW-150 Rs. 27000/- ( you can burgain ) This is a very good sub. Review > Wharfedale Diamond SW150 review from the experts at whathifi.com

Sonodyne Roarr 210 Subwoofer 19000/-

For Wharfedale you can consult : Harmony Audio, 13, Shyama Charan Smriti Tirtha Road, P.O. New Alipur (opposite Chirantani Club). Call Mr. Vasudeo Jagwani 983008504. I have mate him once for my HT. He is very cooperative.
He also keeps Paradigm and SVS subs.

while buying sub....remember your room size...dont go for overkill...
btw i am coming to kol on 19th-20th april...it would be exciting to go for a demo...if you are free with my company..please let me know..i will join you

Onkyo Receiver TX-NR609 and back surround speakers

Guys,
I had dishnetwork run wires to the back wall in my living room so I can have back speakers without any wires showing and everything went good. I plugged in the speakers and did the automatic calibration through the receiver and there was sound coming out of the back speakers. When I play Satellite TV or DVD/Blue Ray there is a very tiny sound coming out of the back speakers, The front speakers work just fine. I know for sure that all speakers are good as I tried the back ones to the front and they do work. Any setting on the receiver I should be aware of or change?

Thanks guys.
