I'm starting into the world of stereo hifi and have been reading about these for a long time. Unfortunately, going through the forums and reviews online hasn't helped that much. The reason being that there are vast number of choices catering to individual tastes, requirements and budgets. So, I thought of posting a thread to help me shortlist few speakers. I understand that speakers are first in the process towards building an audio chain.
On a broader scale, I listen to electronic music. However, it might not completely define the tastes, as I also listen to varied genre (In fact, electronica itself contains a wide range of sub genres like Ambient, Big Beat, Trip-Hop, Trance, Drum'n'Bass, etc.). Ideally, I believe a good pair of speakers should eloquently render any genre with ease and confidence.
1. My preference is towards warmer, organic sounds. It shouldn't be too polished and clinical (as I find digital media to be already quite polished compared to analogue sound). The sound signature preferably should be fast, immediate, transparent and detailed. Bass could be tight, dry and having an attack. (I guess a lot of it has to do with room acoustics and speaker placement as well). Mid-range to treble should be gentle and refined without distortion or harshness.
Other phrases I can throw are better sound separation, musical, lively, high dynamic range, etc. (In essence, I believe all audiophiles wish to get the reproduction as close to live sound as possible).
Thanks in advance.
1. Audio preference (Music / Movies) = 90% for music ... 10% for movies
2. Budget = Rs. 30K (can push it upwards)
4. Source = iPod/iMac via DAC / Phono (in order of preference)
5. Existing components to be integrated with new purchase (Speaker /Amp /Cables /Equaliser /Other) = Need to buy an amp. Recommendations are welcome.
6. Other details /preferences = Described above.
7. Other query-1 =
