Just got an Accuphase power amp (PRO-2) from Japan - and it is wired to run at 100v -> MANUAL

Do any of you have experiences buying step down transformers (240v to 100v) in Mumbai? Are there any guys who could custom wind the transformer for me?

Thinking of going to Lamington Road this Saturday and checking out some stuff there.

Thanks!

OK - went to Lamington road and could only find 220v - 110v transformers.

Anybody know any transformer winders in Mumbai? Seems like I'll have to get one custom wound.

1. As an engineer, let me tell you that you can HAPPILY use a 110V output transformer, when your amplifier is rated for 100 Volts operation.

2. I see from the manual that the same amp is rated for various mains Voltage operation, and therefore I Suspect that you can Simply Rewire it by changing 2 or 3 jumpers, for 240 Volts operation.

This is the BEST solution, not only because it is practically ZERO Cost, but will also provide you the BEST PERFORMANCE.

You will get details of the jumper changes from the Service Manual. Contact the Manufacturer, and they will usually be very helpful.

I would STRONGLY recommend you pursue the jumper option.

3. Incase you are pursuing an External Transformer option, ensure that it is GENUINELY rated for ATLEAST 400 Watts. I would recommend 500 Watts or even 600 Watts, because local manufacturers often rate their products 'Ambitiously' :D

4. I also have a Very hevy duty Isolation Transformer for 240 VAC to 110 VAC. This will provide much better audiophile persormance ( Lower Noise, blacker, more silet background, and elimination of Ground Loops ). It is just lying around, and I would part with it at a low price. I am located in Cuffe Parade. If interested, pm me.

But as I said, Pursue the jumper Option ...

I am in the same situation but since I am not very tech savvy, scared to do it...
I did check my amp's power supply PCB and it shows the 100V and 230V jumpers which need to be switched...I am just not sure if there is something else also needed to do to convert it properly else the amp will blow up..

I am in Delhi and any help will be grateful..

I have seen the specs. from the manual in which in the power supply requirement it says
100V,117V,220V,240V, 50/60 Hz.

This means the internal power supply is either S.M.P.S. TYPE OR has tappings to be selected for input voltage supply.

Unfortunately how this is to be done exactly is not stated in the manual.

If possible, do it yourself or get it done from some expert. Then it is not necessary to get a new transformer.

I was in same situation when I brought my xbox form US to India. I custom wound a step down transformer, which could take upto 300W. It worked fine for few days, but burnt one fine day. I consulted with microsoft later and they provided an Indian power brick free of cost.
From my experience, its always a risk to run a local wound step down transformer, and would suggest to go for a branded one or better the suggestion - @IndianEars gave. From manual, if it supports 230V, try pluggin it directly , but ofcourse at your own risk. Get help from a friend to come and have a look, who is good at electronics.

Purchase the Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier at a special offer price.
