Hi All on this forum,

I am Vikas and I am thankful to all the people who share their knowledge and experience.

I have been searching for a new stereo amplifier. I have woodstock speakers-300 watt peak power( i think around 80 watt RMS pc). earlier i had wood stock amplifier -AW-602.
highly confused in finding a new one which can better perform than my woodstock and reliable should be. Should be approx.100 watt rms.

As per my knowledege stereo amp is always better than AVR.

My budget is approx 50k. Could be plus minus 20 k.
Somebody says for Onkyo, somebody says for yamaha, somebody says for denon and so on . I looked at Rotel also. I tried for Naim nait 5i but in india, it is costing 1.2L and only 50 watts pc. If I manage to get someting from USA, voltage issue is there,i.e-100 v in usa and 220 v in india.I will need to get stepdown transfer. I dont want that.
I do not know what to go for?
PLEASE SUGGEST . Any help will be appreciated.

Please check out NAD also. There has been plenty of stuff written on them in this forum. If you have good speakers, my advice to you will be to go for a dedicated Amp. For around 50 - 70 K you could buy the NAD C356BEE or better amps. Pair them with your Woodstocks and decide.

Thank you vishal,

Have you ever heard NAD? I mean is that better than all these yamaha , onkyo or denon in terms of build quality and reliability? I want the amp which sounds acceptional at low volumes and provides ample amount of deep bass. As I was very impressed with my woodstock.

If you want bass then NAD is the choice as Vishal has mentioned.. Do listen to NAD C356BEE..

Look at Brands like Marantz, Music hall, Cambridge audio also. Yamaha, Onkyo and Denon are know more for their AVRs (Yamaha has some good stereo amps but they are expensive)

Yes I have and am in the market to pick up Amps. And yes there is a big diff in SQ, i have no opinion on build qual and reliability but expert FM's can opine on that.

I will share one insight that was given to me .. just look at how often Onkyo and Denon come out with their upgrades .. the 1912/2312 was barely out last year and the 1913/2313' are out. I was told that these avr's get obsolete/go bad etc etc so fast that the manufacturers pump out new models every year. Just what i heard .. cannot vouch.

Pls listen to all combo's and let your ears not years decide.

Hi Vishal,

I talked to one of the dealer and came to know that rotel is better than nad. Is this true? May be you have listened or tried? Could u tell me something about Rotel 1552 and 1572? 1552 is 120watts pc . If in case I upgrade my speakers, will work fine I suppose. In case if I raise my budget then somebody has suggested me to go for Music fidelity M6i. I know this is totally a different story about one of the best.
Thankyou Vishal
You have been good help

Rotel is considered a high-end amp and they are much more expensive too. I have not had the pleasure of hearing one but they are outside my budget.

Rega Brio-R is the best option for you. I have heard it playing and its fantastic. It also has a very nice phonostage buit-in. As far as I know this can drive any large speakers.

As for Naim 5i, if you think its way above your budget its okay, but don't be fooled by its power rating of 50 Watts on paper, in real it can put many more powerful AMP to shame.

Thank you Vishal for lot of precious information,
I have decided to raise the budget till some extent, approx 1L,
In this budget dealer has suggested me to go for QUAD elite qsp,140w pc instead of rotel and nad.
He said Quad is one of the best british made amplifiers and can come in my budget.
He also suggested for Belles(US made) but little more expensive.
He also suggested for Musiacal fidelity M6i(1.7L) but little more expensive.

I would going down the second hand route as you will get more bang for buck and if bought carefully, you could always sell it off later when upgraditis kicks in.

I have been through a few amps now and have temporarily retired some amps and been using a T-amp and honestly it has been a reveleation and just enjoying the music. You could buy a cheap T-amp and pair it with your speakers, especially if they quite sensitive and maybe use it as a stopgap solution while auditioning different amps?
