Stylus Recommendation for Shure M75ED type 2

After getting my SL 1210, another buyer who I had set up a deal with turned up at my house with a sansui SR 222 Mk1. and an offer I could not refuse

Long story short, I got it, and it turns out it has a shure M75ED Type 2 cart, but the stylus is damaged. I see a bunch of styluses available, from conical to Elleptical toe HE and JICO styluses. Right now I just need to get it up and running with decent sound, from 10 Pounds to 100 pounds or so.

I'm not sure if the cart works or not - it looks pretty old, but more importantly, am I better off buying another cart (AT 95E) , or is getting a stylus for this worth it ?

better of buying another cart but if you want to try out a replacement stylus, the original shure stylus will not be available, Jico makes some decent shure replacement stylii

Yes, I agree with Reuben. Getting a new cart is better. I have notice one defect with old Shure carts. When you use it after a long gap, one channel some blows after a few hours of play. I am sure other Shure users would have had similar experience.

The M75 series was one of the best from the Shure stable. I have a lot of experience with the M75-6. What a lovely cart it was.

cheaper and has better spec (.3x.7 vs .4x.7)

I was just looking for something cheap to get it up and running. There are NOS and other pricier options too

update. this cart used to sound pretty dull compared to the M44-7. Now after bumping up the treble in the amp, it sounds a lot more lively. It's such a stupid hack, I'm surprised I hadnt thought about it earlier.

Update : the Generic stylus was skipping a lot with the tracking weight recommended for the original needle (.75 to 1.5). The replacement stylus has a different tip (.4x.7 mil) as opposed to the original (.2x.7 mil), and seems more like an M75EJ which runs with a higher tracking force. I dialed up the tracking weight to 2g, and the skipping has reduced drastically

Should I be worried about damage to the records?

The tracking weight of 2gms will not cause damage to your records.
