Hi Forum Members,

I have a 7.1 system with all speakers of Mirage that was imported from USA. Specifications are as below.
Mirage Nanosat 5.1
Power Rating 10 to 100W RMS/Channel
Frequency Response 110 Hz - 20 kHz
Impedance 8 Ohms nominal / 4 Ohms minimum
Crossover 2.7 kHz
Tweeter Tweeter: 3/4" (19 mm)
Woofer Woofer: 2 3/4" (70 mm)
Sensitivity 87 dB

Mirage Sub8
Power Output 75 Watts RMS
300 Watts dynamic peak
Woofer Down-firing 8" (203.2mm)
Voice Coil 1" (25.4mm)
Freq. Response (Rec/Repro) 33 - 120Hz
Phase Control 0, 180
Low Pass Crossover 40 - 150Hz @ 18dB/Octave
Driver 1.5" (378mm)
Weight 20.1 lb (9.1kg)

I want to split the setup into an occasionally used Home theater (5.1) for Projector and a Daily used (2.1) system for TV. I have an S8 subwoofer that came with the Mirage package for the 5.1 Now I am hunting for a VFM sub woofer for the 2.1 system. I request your honest feedback from amongst these or a new one in the price range of below 30k, lower the better. I am also open to swap the S8 to the 2.1 setup and have a more powerful home theater on the 5 1.

Shortlisted from among the options I have from the used ones are:
Dali Fazon Sub1 6.5" 100w 12k (2yrs)
Mission MS8 8" 100w 12k (5yrs)
Velodyne VA8100x 8" 100w 15k (12yrs)
Focal Cub2 8" 150w 15k (NA)
Elac Sub50 10" 100w 16.5k (4yrs)
Velodyne Deq8r 8" 180w 20k (7yrs)
Taga Harmony tsw212se 12" 240w 23k (3mos)
SVS PB2000 12" 500w 65k (NA)
DES 10" 200w 14k (NA)

Whole Sale seller, don't know model or age.
Onkyo 8" 10000
Jamo 10" 13000
MJ acoustic 10" 35000
Warfield 10" 180000

Any help/suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

If I understand correctly your AVR is the Denon 1912 which is 7.1 and you are using a 5.1 Mirage setup.....are the other 2 channels with additional Mirage speakers?

The subs you have listed are good....besides power and frequencies in subs....placement also matters....room acoustics also matter...

If you are already happy with the 5.1 setup for HT use, then rather investing in a sub...just get powered speakers (L+R) for the TV.....See Edifier or Swans etc. Most of these models also come with a remote....you can also get 2.1 models which are quite good for TV playback....else hook the TV to the 5.1 system...if you want good decoding and effects...

If you are looking to replace the Mirage sub, suggest you check the reviews and see some Youtube videos if audition is not possible for the models and brands you listed.....what will be good for me may not necessarily be great for you....

Yamaha have decent subs from 15k onwards....see those models and decide....they do a decent job for movies and music......

All the best

Get the svs, it’ll blow you away (As well as your other speakers) and compel you to upgrade the rest of your system.

Yes, I have the AVR 1912 and Mirage 7.1. All speakers are of the same brand and they sound wonderful. I just want the sub to be amped a little more.

I have a Sherwood Receiver as well for the 2.1 setup that's just about adequate for my needs currently. So with the Sherwood Receiver I have hooked up 2 of the Mirage speakers and want to complete this setup with one of the sub woofer listed or get a new one. This receiver combo easily trumps any budget sound bar in the market. The missing piece is the sub woofer.

In that case get a Yamaha sub....it will be more than enough.....decent performer which will pair well with the Mirage
