I have a weird issue with my canton sub 12 whenever i turn it on after it has been off for a while or went to standby, it will not output anything or extremely little.

Very rarely will the sub actually kick in when playing back content but when it does it's working fine. Another thing that works most of the time is turning the volume on the back of the sub to max for a short time and when i turn it back to normal, non window shattering levels, it will continue to work fine again.

The issue is getting the sub to actually start outputting, but when it finally does it's fine.

I am so far beyond confused. I have done all the basics like making sure speakers aren't set to large and such.

Very weird. Could you please elaborate on the connections. Is it connected to the sub out of an AVR ? Also what are the crossover settings in the sub and AVR?

Some subwoofers have an auto turn off switch which will disable the sub if there is no signal.

It is connected with a Y cable and I have also tried a second cable to rule out cable problems. I have also done the test where you just tap on the other end of the cable which should make POP noise on the sub, it doesn't do that - unless of course I have already messed with the volume on the back of the sub for a bit.

The sub crossover is set to maximum which is 200hz. Inside the avr( an onkyo tx-nr828 ) I have the subwoofer "On" and all the other speakers are at 60hz crossover. The LFE stuff is set to 120hz ( max on the avr). Speakers are of course set to small.

I have also disabled the auto on/off standby thing, but to no avail. Once I have the sub running ( by messing with the volume on the back again ) it will keep running fine until i turn it off. One solution would be to never turn the damn thing off, not even standby, but i don't think the tech is supposed to work like that.

It is just so frigging weird. It seems like the sub doesn't fully start up or something, like a pc struggling with cold boot, but once it's running it's fine.

A y cable should never be used for mixing up two channels. I am not sure if this is the cause or not . But the correct way to connect is to connect the sub pre out of the AVR to the low level Right input of the sub- Mono.

Alternatively for checking purpose connect the the high level speaker outputs from AVR to the high level inputs of the sub. The AVR speakers should be set as large in this case so that the full range signal is sent to the L&R channels.

Tried a normal cable as well connected to what you said, no difference.

I will try the high level connection, but there aren't any labelled as such on the avr

If high level also does not work I do not have any other suggestion except to give the sub to the service centre

Looks like a loose contact in the volume pot

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
