I bought a 42 inch sony led tv recently. These are the audio details and output options

S-Master Yes
S-Force S-Force Front Surround
Dolby Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Pulse
Stereo System NICAM/A2

Digital Audio Output(s) 1 (Rear)
Audio Out 1 (Side/Hybrid w/HP)
Headphone Out 1 (Side/Hybrid w/Audio Out)

TV will be used mostly for watching SD channels (Videocon D2H) and 1080p downloaded blu ray rips.

I would like to connect a 5.1 system which can be connected to the TV and also can be used for listening to music (may be via usb)

Please suggest me a low budget set up for this purpose.

Thanks in Advance

In most of the reviews it's written that the Onkyo receiver gets heated up within 10-15 mins of usage. Is it true? Any problem with this? What's the price of HTS3500?

Heard that Yamaha YHT-196 is also good. But I think there's no USB port in it. rt?

every receiver and amp gets heated up however issue is when there is too much heat and the device fails due to the same which is not mentioned. keep is in a ventilated place and you will be good :)

Hi hitchhawk

Low budget entry level HTiBs would be Yamaha YHT 196/199 or YHT 296/299. There are some Pioneer models and Onkyo models available too.

Keeping in mind the connectivity options, you need to go and audition these models and other available options which fit your budget and performance tastes..

AVRs are electronics and they do tend to heat up after a certain amount of time. If you try running an AVR at High volume from the beginning would definitely heat up faster. It is advisable to always start the AVR at a normal low volume and then start cranking up the volume. The most important is the placement of the AVR in a nice area which has good ventilation. Every Owners Manual has clear instructions on how much minimum space needs to be kept.

Audition systems that are available and shortlist a few models....you may then want to read reviews on the same available on internet or even see user posted videos on YouTube for overall performance to take an appropriate decision.

Onkyo HTS 3500 should be for 25k..........even better is denon 1312XP with active subwoofer for 30-32k.

It is X500 + Sys 5.1 Denon speakers. I got a quote of 36K for this combo and YHT 299 for 35K.

denon bundle comes with active subwoofer. you will get onkyo 3500 bundle. but subwoofer is not active. performancewise is good. it has audio return channel option also. denon doesnt have that facility

A set up which will be below 25K

My suggestion would be to get an used AVR for 10 ~ 12K , pair of bookshelf speakers for 15K.... This will do most of your requirements assuming your BRrips don't have HD Audio content....

After you complete your 5.1 set-up, sell your old AVR & get a new one...

Using an Onkyo for the past 5-6 months, HT-S3400 to be precise. I am pretty much impressed with the SQ and the LFE. Yes, it gets heated, but it's normal for any amp.

You can go for a Sony /Yamaha /Denon / Pioneer /Onkyo HTIB.....its good and simple at low cost.........
