Suddenly my DS212J has become inaccessible. I cannot connect either through IP address OR access the share. In fact it is not picking up any IP address. My modem shows that there is no IP assigned to it through DHCP.

The LAN light in the front of synology shows status as active but if i check the back where we insert the LAN cable the lights next to LAN cable don't light up(which I read on forums could be as designed as some of the models dont lit up the back LAN light).

I have tried resetting it but it didn't help. Now I have reset it twice and as per the lights status I should set it up now. But if i check my modem admin page , the NAS is not getting an IP at all. I have also tried to change cables, switch network ports. I also tried using a supported TP link wifi dongle but its not showing up on network no matter what. Any thing that I can try ?

Not related to NAS, but i had this problem yesterday onwards on my Popcorn hour, unable to connect to router....Typical same..:indifferent14:

I am wondering could it be router? but its giving IP to all other devices in my home.

Yes, i got the IP for my NAS...SQ.Box... Not for the Popcorn hour..

May be fault in Ethernet port of your NAS + my Popcorn hour ?

Any blame towards the current rain & lightning?

The customer service of Synology I read is pretty good. Did you try contacting them on their website. Most of the time they connect over the LAN to your NAS and try to rectify after your acceptance and if you are not able to resolve the problem. They do take care of the customer irrespective of whether you purchased in US and still using it outside. Try that option. Hope everything works out good for you.

Yep. I have already written to them. web form was the only option that I could see. Is there an India support number?

Finally working with Synology support it was identified that the network port on NAS has malfunctioned. They asked me to contact Amazon(it was shipped to India through Amazon US) since its under two year warranty. Amazon has asked me to ship it back to them via economy and they will refund the shipping and original cost (since they don't have the replacement unit right now).

FedEx is quoting around 4700 INR. Anyone has any experience with shipping back to US. Any issues with customs etc. that I should be aware ?

Toaster

I have two Synology units and in the past had a couple of ReadyNAS ones( one died with all my data locked into it causing my serious grief). Rest assured that by and large these work reliably.

what was the final outcome? I'm thinking of buying a synology unit and worried about a DOA...

Amazon US ships synology to India as well and thats how I had bought it earlier.Since it was under warranty, I shipped the faulty unit back to Amazon US through speedpost which costed around 2k which was refunded by Amazon. They deducted around 40$ and refunded rest to me. I bought 213j from Amazon again and got it shipped to India. I am super fan of Amazon and you really don't need to worry about DOA. They will never disappoint you and would even refund the shipping for replacement unit.

Thanks, a relief hearing that about Amazon US, the indian prices as usual dont make sense, I'm now struggling to decide on the model esp the ds415play vs ds415+, the ds415+ has a beefier CPU which I believe would certainly be of help, along with SHA and dual lan ports

What drives do you use with your NAS, what raid do you guys run it with?

You may want to go with the ds415play, as this is a true home media server with all built in functionalities required for streaming and other uses along with dlna 1.5.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
