I had finalized Thailand for a trip (official/incentive tour). It appears that the situation now is not really conducive for tourism after their military has taken over. The actual advice was to visit Malaysia but I later changed to Thailand thinking it is cheaper and better (more of nature too).

Is there any other suggestions- for a budget intl' trip? The visit is scheduled for July 1st week. Dubai, HK, SG are some other options I guess apart from Malaysia itself. Or should I take risk and proceed to Bangkok / Pattaya as planned? I read that the curfew after 10 pm is causing transport system rush in the evening. Moving around with soldiers all over may be cool but getting caught in the middle of a commotion is the last thing a tourist would want. I am also not sure how the situation would be 5 weeks later. Any suggestions pl?

Hi Santy

Bali or Maldives or Bhutan would be way more scenic and chilled out. However if you are looking for nightlife with shopping, HK might be a better option

This is the wish (importance):

Nightlife: 2/5
Shopping: 3/5
Cityscape: 5/5
Nature : 4/5
Sports/ Adventure : 0/5
Amusement: 2/5
Climate: 3/5
Religious: 1/5

santy i think you might want to reconsider malaysia it has huge tenaga national park, KL, malacca, langkawi beaches, genting, cameroon highlands lost city ipoh etc..and list goes on..

My order of preference:

Nightlife: 2/5 Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore
Shopping: 3/5 Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore
Cityscape: 5/5 Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore
Nature : 4/5 Thailand, Malaysia
Amusement: 2/5 Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore

Try South Africa. Climate too would be great there .... mild winters. Must stops ... Jo'burg, Durban, Capetown.

Just check with Genting Islands if you are planning Malaysia.
I guess theme parks are closed for renovation.
They were closed in Dec when I was planning. Travel agents suggested no Genting no Malaysia.
So I ended up with Singapore and Bintan.

Also look for Turkey.

is it genting high land or island?

Just noticed that you are from Mumbai. Personally see no point in visiting the SE during this time. You would not find any change in weather. Same sweltering, sweaty heat! Far better would be a long hiatus to the hill stations up North or the North-East. Nature's aplenty in there too.

How about Tashkent, Uzbezkisthan?
Tourist attraction

Someone suggested me this destination for its architectural brilliance. Will check it out.

Thanks! I was recommended Dubai as well by the tour operators. HK's disney land will be a great experience for the kids who are also coming with us. Will evaluate both. For beach destinations in Malaysia (Langkawi?), I think an additional flight is needed -increasing the budget. No wonder Thailand matched our requirement perfectly. Finding it difficult to knock it off the list. SG with beaches would fit the bill too.

Thanks, needs longer duration and out of budget I guess? (we can spend 4 nights max)

Genting outdoor park closed! Thanks for the timely info. Looks like SG/ Bintan will be a good option (city+beach). Turkey probably fits the budget and it looks interesting.
