I am considering getting a pair of floorstanding speakers. Now I am not looking for any kind of audiophile grade speakers - just want something fundoo that can shake a 16*14 ft room with passable sound quality (I do any critical listening with a pair of Sennheiser RS180 headphones). I am not an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination:p.

I also want something that is simple without wires snaking all over the place. I briefly considered the Boston Acoustics CS 260 II, that are available for INR 18000 (is this a good price??) until I realized that these need an amplifier to drive them, which would in turn require additional investment in an amplifier, resulting in more wires, more headache about placement, maintenance, etc. Also had a look at Yamaha NS-8390 for INR 21000, but they too need an amplifier. I am assuming that these speakers would require a decent (read expensive) amplifier to power them: it wouldn't make sense to get them and then use an Ahuja amplifier to drive them.

Keeping my needs for minimalism and simplicity in mind I am tending towards the F&D T-60X (I know, I know... "O what a falling off was there":D). These are active speakers and do not need a separate amplifier. The available reviews suggest that they are also quite loud. Since they are relatively inexpensive, I wouldn't have to handle them with care or tense up whenever anyone under the age of 12 goes near them. Since the set consists of only two speakers I could literally place them anywhere. They also have a Karaoke function with FREE wireless mic. Can anyone having the F&D T-60X tell me if there are any major negatives with regard to these speakers? In short, is there any reason why I should not get these speakers, keeping my needs in mind?
Any alternatives?

Thanks in advance.

BTW has anyone heard of Jack Martin speakers? Specifically Jack Martin Lifestyle Acoustic tower speakers?

If it is not too many hours a day that you would be listening to music, but more like an hour at max, close your eyes and get yourself these speakers. It has optical input as well, so you will get fairly high fidelity sound

As I was mentioning in another thread, these speakers are pretty good especially if you keep the price in vision.

They are not typical hi-fi and if one sits with a fine toothed comb, one can write about the flaws with these speakers. But once we do not do that, things are promising.

1. They have enough power. So, for any normal listening they are decent

2. The features they offer is simply mind blowing and all of them work. Optical input, Remote Control Bluetooth, NFC and a Karaoke Mic thrown in for free! I am still pleasantly surprised

3. Balance-wise they are almost there. I like the way they sound though there is some tuning possible with Balance and Treble

4. I like the integration of the frequency spectrum as well as everything seems seamless. There is not much audible dip of any frequencies. This is especially important if you consider this vs a 2.1 set up.

If I have a gripe, then that would be the bass but it is not about the speaker. These speakers are bought for my parents to make TV sound better and they do a great job. Unfortunately they do not have a lot of space so the speakers are kept about 2-3 feet apart which they do not like that much and so the Bass gets a bit over powering. Once you get to spread them apart by about 6-8 feet and sit at least 6 feet away then my gripe hear disappeared.

So, like any other speakers, they need to be played with positioning, and need to be played in as well to let them settle.

The other issue which people mentioned, is the long term reliability. Apparently their PSUs are prone for shorter life spans but given the iPhone churn every second year, I am ok if they work alright for few years.

@ Athulan and SatMumbai, thanks for replying. I am assuming that you are speaking about the F&D T-60X and not about the Jack Martin speakers?

Yes, I am referring to the F&D T60 2.0 floor standers. You may also want to check infibeam for the best price on these speakers
