Guys,Today i got a chance to watch first 3D Tv in my life !!!! . I went to Dubai mall in dubai to take audition of Onkyo and WD and just got a chance to peep in DG and saw this TV and following are my observation

Guys , full credit to samsung , they have pulled it off. I was aprehensive as to how a 3D Tv will be but i must admit they have made a amazing product. It just looks like normal samsung LED TV and also comes with pair of chasmas[as evry body knows CHOTA CHETAN]. 46" was priced at AED 16,300 [Rs 2,00,000/-] i enqired for 40" but concrened person was not there. 2 pairs of glasses will be given with the TV but we have to pay extra for next ones you ask for.

Dubai Showcases best of electronics , but most of the salesman dont know what the product they are selling very very pathetic!!!.

I will post prices of other model as am visiting Hi fi city once again....

3d tv is the future. This technology will drop lcd/led tv prices further. Can you see the tv with the "Chasmas" and write a little note about your experience.

I would assume the tv will let you watch both 2d and 3d content since not all content will be available in 3d. Hence one will need the glasses only when watching a 3d enabled movie.

3D is a marketing gimmick. Have you thought about the strain your eyes will undergo long-term when frames are rapidly interleaved to generate the 3D effect? And whether this technology will be usable by all people (many suffer headaches and disorientation after viewing 3D, since human brains are not adapted to simulated stereoscopic vision).

In my opinion, we do not need 3D 24/7...another technology which makes us couch potatoes. "Carpel tunnel" was not a well-known term till the IT industry took off...maybe we'll have "Carpel tunnel vision" when/if 3D takes off. We must always take every new technology with a pinch of salt...how it affects our health in the long-term is an often overlooked thing. Just putting a word of caution lest we all get swept away with 3D-mania.

I agree with this. Avatar was the first 3D movie I watched in the last 20 years (not counting the Tamil 3D movie My Dear Kutti Chattan!) and I felt a bit disoriented for the next hour or so after coming out of the theatre. I can't imagine how people would be able to watch 3D 24/7 without feeling the "side effects"!

However closer this '3D' pictures comes out of the TV screen and touches me and knocks me out of the chair in my living room, I for one, will never touch this thing '3D TV' even with a bargepole.

:)

Hi,

If using a glass to view 3D stereo and because of which you have to bare with all the difficulties that you have mentioned, I guess the technology has already been advanced for the very same reason. There is no more requirements for glasses to view 3D stereo, this technology is already put to use in the US, and Samsung has already come up with the same TV. This technology is called Autostereoscopy.

More info is available here--->Autostereoscopy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The same technology has been extended to Projectors also.

But ofcourse, by the time this technology comes to India, the US would have gone to 4D, 5D etc........ with their HT's.

With all these technological advances, 3D is going to be the future.

cheers.

Hi,

By 4D, 5D do you mean added dimensions like smell, vibrations, touch, heat (Imagine you feeling the affects of a huge blast) because spatially 3D is the limit.

I guess in the home environment 3D might be sufficient, the next move may be variations in the 3D like projecting the images in space rather than on a flat screen giving a more realistic presence (Remember Star Trek or the 3D calls in Star Wars!).

While in the theatre environment the other dimensions may be applicable as they would need to be more controlled and may need huge investments and they would keep on attracting people to the theatres. Just like they have it in Universal Studios theme park in Orlando (Not sure if Singapore has the same) where you get immersed in the movies. For me Spiderman, King Kong and Matrix were too real!

I may be wrong ... but the Samsung 3D LED TV on ezone was priced 1.46 lacs for 46 inches... as shown on ezone website.

I get your point but i don't think people will ever fully understand the negatives of a technology before adopting it.
I am personally against watching TV, its big waste of time with some content being addictive, i rather read, hence I bought a 22" lcd TV, but whenever i have guests come home their first comment is "Why is your tv so small ?". I feel like asking them if they have ever read scientific articles on negatives of watching tv ? I guess they would not have, since watching excessive tv reduces intelligence :ohyeah: Life is beautiful, don't waste it on watching TV !!

Cars cause reduces levels of exercise. Cell phones cause reduced bone density. Credit cards have driven my friends to high levels of debt. Kids are addicted to the PS3 reducing their playtime which is important for building social skills. Our growing demand is ruining the planet.

We can't stop ourselves hence i don't see why we cannot embrace another technology which will take us to self-destruction :)

you will need 3D - ajinkya - the latest playboy has a 3D centerfold - the glasses are free.

Suri,
In that case, I stand corrected and take back my reservations about 3D technology. This is indeed a noble and worthy cause to sacrifice your vision for. Please point me to a place where this image may have been uploaded, so that I can scientifically verify the effectiveness of the same.

This is where 4 & 5 D will really work nicely;)

Imaginations running wild :p

String theory (now M-theory) predicts 10 spatial dimensions :D

Thanks a lot! Though as a teen I used to be hugely interested in these theories the concept of additional dimensions, warped space the possibility of time travel etc., imagining the additional dimensions still remains a difficult proposition.
I would be ok with just the 4th classical dimension (i.e. time) to be available for manipulation of some sort, in the meantime we can do with the more mortal dimensions indicated by some here ;)
