I need a 40 or 42 inch TV for my bedroom.

I'll use it as a computer monitor for 30% of the time
then for downloaded movies 60% of the time
and maybe gaming/tv news 10% of the time.

I particularly dont need
3d/3d ready set
smart tv/internet enabled tv

But i do need
the best picture quality possible
something that i can use as comfortably one feet away (while surfing) and that's equally easy on the eyes 13 feet away (for movies)

I've been told Plasmas cant work as computer monitors, but I dont know why.

The new gen LEDs have all these gimmicky 3D/internet features that i dont want to spend a paisa on
So that leaves just LCDs

Please advise what options I have

The plan is good except that 1 foot distance while surfing.

Have you given a thought to using wireless key board and mouse so that even for surfing you can sit at distance of more that 7 ft from 42" display?

It seems that plasma should not be fed with static images. The webpage remains static many times when we read or we just leave the thing on and do some other work for a while. May be thats the reason its not used as monitor. I feel that using a moving screen saver should solve the problem.

budget's ~50k.

I have a computer in my bedroom with a 22" monitor. But i find it too small for watching movies from a distance (~13 feet). So I'm thinking of replacing the monitor with a big LCD.

please help me on this. Is it advisable to use a 40" LCD as a computer monitor and work on it from a distance of ~1-2 feet?

Has anyone tried this? Is it comfortable for the eyes?

It is better to use your current monitor for PC use and proposed LCD TV for movie watching and gaming. Working with a 42" TV at a distance of 1" is a very bad idea. I have used my PC with a 26" LCD TV and I found it very difficult to use. The display makes eye strain and neck pain as you have to move your head left to right to see what is displayed.

So, if I don't use the LCD as a TV monitor, but with the other conditions the same (strictly no 3D, no internet features), what should I be looking at?

The budget's ~50k, but now plasmas can also be considered.
