Looking for a television to play DVDs, blu-rays, and stream movies or video content, and some gaming here and there. I have a separate surround system with speakers I can use for movies, so television audio quality isn't too important. I don't need a lot of extra features but I need to be able to hook it up with my components.

you have not specified budget.......most tv's these days do support video playback of all formats, depends on the model you select.

Do u have a bluray player? If not buy a media player which can playback .iso and .vob. Try to get a tv with 4 hdmi port of which 1 hdmi is audio return channel(ARC) output.

I would suggest you to go LG smart TV as firstly they use passive tech in their smart TVs which increase the PQ of the same to a lot of extent.

Yeah. Please indicate the size you are looking and the budget. All flat panels have HDMI ports to which you can hook up a DVD and/or BD player. Most DVD players of today's generation upscale DVD to HD over HDMI - so you will get good quality.

If you have many components look for TV with more HDMI ports. At least 2 are minimum while 3 are recommended/nice to have.

Another typical case of a newbie coming and posting an arbit question & then vanishing for weeks / months. We might have our suggestions but he might never return :)

I don't know what made you to say this, it's may be because some of the users on this site site have done this but as far as i am concerned, I am really looking for a good TV.
I will be highly thankful to you If you can help me in the same like other users have done.

Reading some of the TV reviews, I noticed that all format of videos aren't supported by every brand like somewhere i came to know that sony doesn't support mkv file format.
Isn't it true?
