Came across this ad in the quikr

Vinyl lp records abhinetri/pagla kahin ka (angle) - Mumbai @ INR 20,000!!! Each for INR 10,000!!! The seller says it is in "Mint" condition.

Wondering if the pricing is crazy or ....;).....I mean do these LP's demand this kind of pricing...ofcourse the seller can demand any kind of pricing...Note that it is from "angle" not the usual " Angel"

There are crazy collectors too!
For music listener, rather paying that ridiculously high price I would get other media format of same music.

prices for LPs do seem to be shooting up ! in the international market there are LPS which sell for 300 USD and up depending on rarity and condition
but again there are people who pay more for a meal :) . this can at least be taken as an investment

I don't think there is any mistake. Abhinetri is a very rare lp. In my last 2years I have never come across this lp. So is Pagla Kahin Ka on Angel. The Odeon press of Pagla Kahin Ka is common. Having said that 10000 seems over the top. Something around 2000 seems more appropriate for these titles

I know it's Anand. I have somehow never been happy with my purchases from him. Though his lps look mint they don't necessarily play that well. In the past I had purchased 4 or 5 lps from him to check out his quality. Even then when I used to get mint lps for around 500, he used to charge 1000

:ohyeah::ohyeah: and In my meeting he told me you ( Prem ) his regular customer and bought Many Many records from him!!
 
It's not the same guy. Some of those sellers are from New zealand, Canada, UK, etc. Mostly foreign sellers.

Anyway there's this guy on Ebay..user name ganga_jal. He sells bollywood records at prices between 10-100 USD. Most of his stuff on avg sells at 20-30$ (almost 1500-2k per album!). And people readily pay that much. Records that you would get locally here for 100-200 INR. Here's his ebay page :

Would be a fun exercise to compile a list of rare bollywood vinyl records...what say members? Also, it will be nice to know why some titles are rare.

I can think of Bhoot Bangla and Burning train commanding high prices in used vinyl makets. Don't know why. Also, I have noticed that most so called 'rare' records are musically mediocre works.

I am friends with one of the used record dealers here in Singapore. Last year he had got some bollywood oldies along with the used english haul he usually deals with. He also sells on ebay-UK and in view of the no clientele here for hindi preferred to list all the hindi ones at ebay. Most of the Hindi oldies got sold between UK-PS 20 - 180 range. I was astonished and he was pleasantly surprised as well!! Imagine his purchase was average 5-8 Sing $ ( UK-PS 2 -4!) per LP! I couldn't afford it as I am used to buying the hindi LP's in India!!!

I understand (from him ofcourse!) it is the remix artists in the UK, Canada and Netherlands who go for the old hindi records and are ready to fork out such pricing! But this is quite seasonal and impulsive. It is the same group of bidders who compete each other. Sometimes one title gets sold for such exorbitant pricing in one month and the next month the same title remains a "No Bid"!

So...it is purely up to lady luck to favor you!!!!

Hi Saket

There are collectors I know who are fans of LP or RD or SJ. These guys are fans of a music director and they will do whatever it takes to have every possible record released of their favourite music director. These are the guys who pay this kind of money for obscure titles. A SJ fan will not bother about RD titles and vice versa. The lps you have mentioned in the above post are targeted at these collectors, not you and me.
