Hey,

I just bought a new setup : Yamaha RX 375 and Soundware XS 5.1 , which is hooked onto my LG 42lw5700 3D LED TV.

I have the following setup which is working currently :

SetTop Box --> AVR|---> TV (Video)
_________________|---> Speakers (Audio)

I am having issues when i directly play content from my TV like Plex Media, Youtube etc., where i am supposed to use the TV as a source for audio and play it on my speakers.

Now i know there are 2 ways to do it, unfortunately both aren't working for me. :indifferent14:

Option 1 : ARC Mode
I have enabled ARC mode on the AVR (for HDMI) and on the TV (HDMI 1). The TV transmits Digital Audio in PCM format (Only one option displayed). However, when i play content on the TV there is no sound, even though the AVR detects that the TV is playing content and switches the mode from HDMI to AV4.

Option 2 : Optical Audio Cable
I have connected the optical audio OUT from the TV to the optical audio IN , in the AV4 place where it mentions TV Input. However , still i am not getting any sound from the speakers. I have tried disabling the HDMI control for this mode as well.

Nothing seems to be working. I need help from someone who has worked with a similar setup :sad:

For optical audio to work, you need to assign the optical port of avr to one of the hdmi or analog port of the avr and switch to that particular input. Also in your TV audio settings select speaker system as external.

That is what the problem.. I cannot select any other speaker in my TV other than its own.. If I go to select any other speaker.. It gives me a pop up to enable Simplink..
However when I go to add a Simplink device.. It does not detect either the AVR or the speakers.. So I am unable to route the audio to my AVR and the TV tries to play on its internal speakers only..

So if I understand correctly, you have connected the STB to AVR via HDMI. The HDMI out of the AVR is going to the TV and the speakers are directly connected to the AVR. There's no optical connection in use.

If you've connected as mentioned above, you'd automatically get the sound on the speakers without any further changes required. If not, just check your STB audio settings whether they'd transmit the sound via HDMI.

If you have an optical cable too then things are a little bit different. Can you confirm your connections once again?

If you're using optical out as mentioned

I am using both the connections since none of them were working.. I have connected it via the HDMI ARC route as well as the audio cable. .

Please explain your connection once again the following format.

1. STB - HDMI - TV
2. STB - Optical - AVR

You don't need the TV-Optical-AVR chain.

If you're trying ARC, then just the first set of connections is required. If you want to get ARC working, you may need to explore the options of ARC setting in your TV and AVR.

It'd be simpler if you just do a STB-Optical-AVR connection and switch to the required input while watching TV.

Another option would be to connect it in the following way

STB - HDMI - TV
STB - Optical - AVR

This way you can watch TV without the AVR when you do not want to decode multichannel sound. When you want to watch something which has 5.1 sound (HD channels), you can switch your AVR, change the input on the AVR, mute the TV sound and you'd be all set.

I have similar issue on my yamaha rx v375 and samsung F5000 , ARC is not working correctly if I played any movies / music which is thru the usb disk attached to the tv , so I bought a optical cable and connected and now its working.

If you are playing contents on tv , select the AV4 option( for optical connection ).

For STB select the corresponding hdmi option.

Thanks
Nikhil
