I have been using a Microtek 1Kva Ups just for my projector since last 3 years and I haven't had any problems with it. Costed me close to 3.5K at that time.

hi ashish,

i beileve the one you reccomended is a offline ups...

i spoke to an Microtek representative today... he told me there were 3 type...

offline - takes 21 millisecond to switch to battery @ Rs 4700

online - takes 1 millsecond to switch to battey and also provides fluctuation protection @ Rs 12400

line interactive - takes 8 millisecond to switch to battery @ ?!?

So he reccommnended to go for Online UPS...

I had a few doubts...

1. Can a offline ups provide a fast enough response time to switch from main power to battery so that the projector is still "ON" when the power goes and i can then switch it off ?

If yes then am i better off with a offline UPS or should i spend more for a Online UPS ?!?

What are other members using with there projectors...?

Thanks

Use an offline one. I haven't come across a single instance where I had trouble because of this specially in a place like Faridabad where Power Outages are quite frequent.

Go offline, that's enough.

And I thought online was always working off batteries, so where does the switch-over time of 1ms come in? strange...

ashish & yrk

based you on feedback from both of you i'm gonna go in for a "offline ups".

one final thing...

APC or Microtek...?!?

If you can afford an APC then go with it otherwise a Microtek is a smart buy.

I would try Microtek next time at least.

I had a 500VA Microtek for about 3 yrs, no problems.
APC 1.5kVA, failed in the first few months, replacement worked for the last few years without issues.
Now I have a 5kVA APC, which had to be replaced twice because units were DOA. The current one is working fine for the past few weeks.

APC is supposed to be the standard, but I wonder now...

guys thanks for the tips....

this is what i did....

apc 1kva ffline as about 5k-6k... online bout 23k.... microtek 1kva offline bout 3k and online 1kva bout 13k...

then i read some more bout square wave & sine wave etc.... i concluded that although an offline can do the trick but it still takes time to switch over to battery and there are fluctuations and although that might not blow the lamp/projector immidieately it reduces the life of the lamp/projector in the long run....

wherease online is takes no time to switch over and also provides surge protection and some kind of emi/rfi noise filters amongst some other features which a offline upd does not have....

i didnt wanna take a chance so i got a 1kva online microtek. now its connected and i can watch my movies with peace of mind...

thanks all... ;-)

Pure Sine wave online UPS would be the best for PJ . If it is only for PJ than I think 1 KVA would be enough for you . And if you wish to add all your AV gear to it than 2 KVA is good enough

3 leading brands - APC / Emerson / Eaton . Eaton is by far the most reasonable one. That does not mean that they are inferior to quality with APC or Emerson. For the price of APC offlince UPS you can get an Eaton Online UPS .
