Hi,
Can you confirm the model no. is it SlB-210 or SlD-210.You can avoid SlB-210 for this price as it is very low end and cartridge choice are very limited. This table supports only P mount cartridge.
Regards,
Sachin
Sachin, it is SL-D210 and yes it has P mount cartridge. What are the options as there seems to be an adapter available that converts non P-mount to P-mount?
Sajith knows this seller, so he is getting it for much lesser. As per Sajith's conversation with the seller, it is in mint condition and very sparingly used. Has a Audio Technica cart on it. Not much info on this TT on the net though.
Hi,
I have a SLD21-2 model TT, though purchased in a bad cosmetic condition (due to impulse purchase due to the name of Technics DD TT) and the Brass bush holding the Tonearm was worn-out, managed to fix it with a replacement, in the process lost the semi-auto functionality. Presently it is working in a fully manual mode It sounds good with a Shure M97xE MM cartridge after the Tonearm rewiring (with Cardas wires), and interconnect replacement.
If cmsajith finds the condition of the TT good, then I think it is worth a buy. I suggest him to go with Shure M97xE cart, as they suit very well with Technics Tonearms.
I have a offer for SL1400 Technics TT, which is in good condition, how far is it a upgrade for the SLD series, I request the vinyl pundits here to give their thoughts.
Thanks in advance.

Hi sajith,
The SLD model uses a Technics headshell, so you dont need to change the tonearm for that. You only need to mount the cartridge on the headshell, and again fix the headshell on the tonearm, by this way you can swap different cartridge(fitted on individual headshells) in the same tonearm and use them. See the pics below of a bare headshell and a headshell mounted with cartridge :

To begin with you can use AT-91 cart from Audio-technica priced around Rs1500-1750/- each, and later upgrade to a Shure M97xE( priced around Rs.3.5 to 4k). The Shure plays with less surface noise, is very detailed, skips rarely, and a very good cart.
For Grado, there is a thread in Audiokarma where they have given the database for the hum issue. You can check that thread for the Grado compatibility for your Technics model.
Hope this helps.

Hi Murli,
Technics headshell can't be fitted on this TT,as it supports only P mount cart(Fixed headshell). You can check this link for Grado hum
The NEW Grado Hum Database - AudioKarma.org Home Audio Stereo Discussion Forums
The best P mounts were old Technics cart if available.Shure M92E is another good option with JICO hyperelliptical stylus.

Hi APK,Hi Sajith,
I have an SL-D202, which should be close to the model that you are looking at. The SL-D202 is a well built entry level TT that is still performing flawlessly even though it's nearly 3 decades old. I'm running it with the stock cartridge (stanton) and tonearm, and am enjoying the sound.
I would say go ahead since you are getting a mint piece without breaking the bank. Technics TTs are solidly built and reliable. You can then upgrade as you wish (stylus, cartridge, tonearm) and also move on to something bigger and better with time.
Cheers,
APK.
