Hi Guys

I am on the lookout for a good integrated amp for my Dynaudio BM6 and i've posted in the wanted section, and waiting to find some good deals.

In the meantime, I found an old Yamaha Receiver RX V350 lying unused in my house. I was wondering could I hook this up to the speakers while I wait for a good amp to come my way? It seems to be powerful enough? The speakers require 50-100 RMS watts in 4 ohms. Here is the specs from the receiver:

AUDIO SECTION
Minimum RMS Output Power for Front, Center, Surround 1 kHz, 0.1% THD, 6 ? [U.S.A. and Canada models] ............................................... 100 W [Other models] ....................................................................... 90 W 1 kHz, 0.7% THD, 6 ? [U.S.A. and Canada models] ............................................... 103 W [U.K., Europe, Australia and Korea models] ......................... 93 W
DIN Standard Output Power [Europe model] 1 kHz, 0.7% THD, 4 ? ........................................................ 105 W
Maximum Power [China, Korea and General models] 1 kHz, 10% THD, 6 ? ......................................................... 110 W
Dynamic Power (IHF, 6/4/2 ?) [U.S.A. and Canada models] ................................. 110/140/170 W [Other models] ....................................................... 105/135/165 W

Will this be sufficient to tide me over? Or will I blow the speakers or amp by connecting it?

Any advice would be helpful

Thanks

Thanks Nikhil

Yes, I agree.. i'm just playing the waiting game until a good one comes my way (or I save up enough to buy a good new one). I've gotten offers for the Arcam A28. Would those be a massive improvement over this Yamaha receiver?

I'm going to try to hook up the receiver and will post my feedback. Currently using a vintage Sansui AU222 which has only 15 W per channel, so hopefully it will sound a bit better than that!

Cheers

Hi

I used to drive my ATC SCM40 with Denon 2309. I wouldn't say its best sounding combo but 2309 had enough grunt to make SCM40 sounds good.

I think you should try new 3312.

Cheers

I think if I buy a new amp, it will most likely be an integrated one. I don't really have a need for a receiver, i just figured i'd give this one a shot since it's already lying at home.

Would the Arcam A28 be a good choice?

@ tek

If you are on a limited budget then stick to stereo integreteds for better sound quality.

Your yamaha avr can be paired with Dynaudio BM6 with ease. High end AVRs are in a different league though.

You should demo it with your speakers if you can. You will get a lot of opinions from well meaning folks but I have realized that really there is no common ground when it comes to describing audio. The more amps you can audition the better for you to make a choice. Take your time ... it'll be worth it later.
