very urgent: videocon 19 inch lcd from futurebazaar (very urgent)

Hi Friends,

I am in need of urgent and genuine suggestions from the gurus. Please help me out and today. No response today means no response at all, since i need to decide before midnight. I came across this sale on futurebazaar.com that has very lucrative offers on LCDs. See here.

Specifically, I am looking out for - Videocon VHL19SBS/SBH 19" LCD + Tata Sky worth Rs. 999/- [Battle price of INR 7790]

Without having any pre-intentions of buying a TV soon, I just fell for this advert. Now, I am utterly confused in this price vs quality dilemma.

So, please answer this "why would you stop me from buying this TV?".

points that I put in favor of this TV -

1. very very decent price (7k+ with a tata sky and 3 yrs manufacturer warranty as said by futurebazaar customer care)
2. my need is just for an alternate TV and not for main viewing
3. this can double up as a PC monitor (let me know if I am wrong - maybe a typical monitor is a better monitor)
4. my in-laws will never mind if this TV doesn't have full HD, multiple hdmi connections, USB support blah blah
5. i have had 3 videocon (CRT) Tvs before and had a decent experience all through

points of concern for me -

1. i have never shopped online and that too from futurebazaar so no idea about quality of deliverables and overall experience
2. 19" is fine but then i start thinking why not put 3k more for a 22" and then a little more for 26" and so on (but then, this is not my main TV)

Friends, once again - if you think this is justified enough, please reply now.

1. It has a TN panel, so will be very bad for normal TV viewing. You are better off with a CRT. The price is decent but I am sure you can get a better deal if you shop locally instead of online.
2. If it is for alternate TV viewing then better to go in for CRT. Like I said, the limited viewing angle of TN panel (especially a cheapo VideoCON panel) will really get on your nerves.
3. It can double up as a PC monitor but the watch word here is "double-up". This thing will neither be good for duty as a primary PC nor as a primary TV. It is somewhere in between, like in a no-man's land, and if the picture quality is as bad as I think it is going to be, then after some time you will be using it neither as a TV nor a monitor. If you are planning to put it in the kitchen or in the bathroom then I guess it's OK.
4. So this TV is meant for your in-laws?? If you have some grouse against your in-laws then by all means, get it for them. The poor performance will drive them nuts.
5. CRT TVs typically have a very long life and the technology is very old. So it was basically very easy for any chaar-annacompany to put a picture tube in a wooden cabinet, solder all wires to a circuit board and sell it as a TV (with Sri Devi doing the ads for them of course.....). LCD technology is a very different ballgame altogether. The technology is relatively new, and even LCD TVs from reputed makers like Samsung, LG and Sony sometimes fail within the first year. And if you thought that Videocon would have great ASS then read this

point of concern
1. Shopping online is relatively safe, but I personally have never dealt with futurebazaar either. I can vouch for the ease and safety of buying on ebay though.
2. Buy the biggest TV that your pocket will allow. Regret is a painful thing.

Futurebazzr.cvom has become EXTREMLY aggressive in last 2 months and some of their deals are almost IMPOSSIBLE to get in market...like 500 GB portable HDD free with netbook and Rs 500 Voucher.
I am not big fan of big bazaar group ,but currently it is the place with SOME OF the best deals.

I owned a samsung CRT from them. Allthough the model was bit offbeat but compact, I got it unbeatable price which was my requirement that time. Using since 3 years with not a single issue.

Swami I wouldnt put my hard earned money on Videocon LCD. You are better off without it.

If you up it , Pana x9 for 22k is an awesome deal!
