I recently bought sony 32cx320 and it supports mkv format and i am able to play mkv files but when i play some of the mkv files there is video distortion  while the same files play well in my laptop. Why is that? Why does distortion happen? How to rectify this problem?

check out the frame rate on your mkvs. Those should be supported by your tv.

Normally, 24p or 23.9999p which is true cinema mode does not supported by all players or tv.

google on this frame rate.

Sorry for off topic but I've bought the 32EX520, I checked and it doesn't support mkv file? Why's that ?

The X-reality based Sony tvs including the flagship HX series for some reason doesn't support MKV files nor NTFS formated HDD.
While the budget models which have the BE3 processing supports both MKV and NTFS formated HDD

yes, strange & funny sony...but again missed at supporting subtitles which would have done the complete deal!

you download .mkv files from internet?Sony may not be able to decode files correctly.
then please note that there are profiles of H264 codec based video and different people may have used different settings to rip dvd or bluray discs.
You can't compare it with laptop where you can install various codecs and has support to play 1080p files(almost all types of files).
you can convert problematic files with format factory or handbrake.
hope this helps.

^^ but dear rohit, the sad part is all these"so called "problematic" .mkvs r handled flawlessly by sony's competitor brands namely samsung & lg, & that too..they dont have addon problems like NOT displaying external subtitles like .srt,.sub etc!

The only option is to check before you buy, but sadly choice and demo places are limited. Also there is no Guarantee that a specific file will play on a system.

As an example I have Xtreamer and it has played every file I have thrown at it, Even now with Compressed headers. But one Hindi Movie Rip with GMC( Global Motion Compensation ) refuses to play. So with all the encoding options out there , there will never be a guarantee that all formats will play.

Sony is known to be stingy on Features as compared to Samsung and LG and even other lesser known brands.

The only rectification is to re-encode the movie for a specific system with a risk on Loss of Quality.or wait for Firmware release to improve compatibility.

Dear Venkatg
I have noticed that only MKV files with AAC audio is not displayed correctly in that model of Sony Bravia. Check if your mkv has aac audio. there is no way to fix this:sad: , unless Sony does a firmware upgrade.
The picture tears horizontally when this kind of files are played.

Before buying Sony LCD, you should have checked with the customer care or atleast gone through the sony website...
