Hi guys, I recently installed the videocon d2h service and while I get sound on most channels (I subscribed primarily for the HD channels) there are some channels with digital sound that just don't work. When I switch to stereo I start getting the audio channels but not when I switch to digital!

My STB is connected via HDMI to a Denon 3313 receiver and I know my receiver works fine because I also have my PS3, Oppo Blu-Ray player and Popcorn Hour media player all connected to the same receiver. I would assume that digital sound should work flawlessly through HDMI but I only get sound when I select 'stereo'. Do I need to connect coaxial wire for digital sound? Wouldn't that defeat the whole purpose of HDMI cable?

Is it possible I got a bad STB? Oh and once I select 'stereo' for a particular channel and I surf back to the channel, I have to go through the sound option again to select 'stereo' again. Its like the box doesn't remember the settings.

And yes my STB setup has been selected to "Home Theatre" or whatever the setting is under Box Settings.

"Videocone D2H doesn't offer 5.1 Audio for HD Channels"

No. It does offer 5.1 sound for HD channels..

You need to connect a coaxial from spdif out of STB to coaxial in to the receiver..

I did in fact go through this thread earlier but I do not understand why digital audio channel is not transmitted via HDMI, if that is what you are saying? So to get digital sound the only way is to connect coaxial cable to the receiver?

Videocon D2H offers 5.1 sound over optical/coaxial and not HDMI. So I suggest that you connect your STB, AVR and TV as follows:

Option 1:
STB ==> (HDMI) ==> AVR ==> (HDMI) ==> TV
STB ==> Optical or Coaxial ==> AVR
In the AVR audio setup, choose Optical/Coaxial as priority over HDMI audio.

Option 2:
STB ==> (HDMI) ==> TV
STB ==> Optical or Coaxial ==> AVR

Option 3 (if TV has ARC):
STB ==> (HDMI on ARC) ==> TV
TV ==> Optical ==> AVR

Videocone D2H doesn't offer 5.1 Audio for HD Channels. So won't get digital sound through HDMI or Optical/SPDF

Sir, Do not confuse people.

It does transmit 5.1 DD Audio for Most of the HD channels.
You will have to connect it through Coaxial Cable, and it will work perfect.
I believe, they had it through HDMI in the DVR-STB, but not yet in the HDSTB, nobody knows why. :lol:

For a few days I am not getting Dolby sound in Z Studio HD, Z Cinema HD & Zee TV HD in D2H. Prior to that may be some days ago I was getting DD sound for these channels.
But I am getting Dolby sound(analogue 5.1 channel output) in Other Movie(Star Movie HD, Star Gold HD, Movies Now) and NGC and Discovery HD channels connected through Coaxial cable with 5.1 channel Audio Decoder(purchase through ebay).

Is there any problem in Zee HD channels?

Only Zee Studio HD provides Dolby Digital 5.1 sound.
Zee TV HD and Zee Cinema HD have only Stereo sound.
