I wonder if people wanting vintage amplifiers have actually heard them again today in their current set up.
While many sound 'nice' they often do not come up to current day standards !
I bought a Luxman LV102 based on 'net opinions etc.' and the fact that it was easy to pick up. I found the volume pot was damaged as was one of the 'very hard to find' push button switches.
The pot was easily replaced. It was disappointing to listen to it. There are far better Luxmans and other brands than this ! I tried many mods but nothing helped much.
Right now it's lying in a dismantled heap and I wonder if I will get around to putting it back.I plan to use the chassis to put in another power amp board.
I also got a vintage Scott tube amplifier. Nothing great at all ! But a new ASL tube power amp does sound very good !
Hi ,
I got Luxman L58A and it sounds beautiful paired with my Tannoy DMT-15.
If you cannot get "L" series luxman then you can go for vintage pioneer preferably silver faced 70's amplifiers.
