Hello all,

At the risk of sounding idiotic I am going to post this question here :)

I saw a good deal on a 42" Vizio LED backlit LCD and realized that the voltage compatibility on this unit was listed as 110 ~ 240V. Rare to see this in the US. So now tempted to pick a 42" TV for my parents in India.

My questions are -

1) The TV says it has an ATSC/QAM tuner. I understand this to not be compatible to the PAL spectrum. Are there "conversion" boxes in India to broadcast PAL signal on this TV?

2) The box weight and dimensions may just about fall within acceptable dimensions for check-in luggage. Although I am not sure of specific airline policies to ship a piece of luggage like this! Anyone done this before? If so, what was your experience? Will customs harass you endless if you were to bring this along?

Any help is appreciated... TIA

You can bring it over brother. No need to worry about NTSC or PAL if you are planning to use it with a set top box (which a 42" tv definitely begs for, considering the slightly superior video quality from digital cable)
No need to worry about the dimensions. You WILL have to pay some duty, or else bribe the guys there. Won't be more than 3000-4000 depending on your bargaining skills and the value on the bill from there.
Just make sure the price difference between this and comparable competition in India is more than 10-12k atleast, to offset the duty and pain of getting the tv. Not to forget the fact that you will not get warranty or support of any kind in India.
So, if it's dirt cheap, then go for it.

Frank, thanks for your response. The price I am getting here is $600. Add another $100 for bribe/shipping. Translates to Rs. 31,000. How much would an equivalent 1080p cost there? This is an LED backlit LCD TV @42"
... sorry, sitting here in the US it's difficult to get a true picture of pricing in India.

A 42" LED TV @ 31,000/- all incl. is really good. Out here in India the cheapest 42" CCFL LCD TV you will probably get is the Toshiba models, costing around 43,000/- which come with pretty ordinary specs. (The Videocons and Haiers might cost a little less, provided thay have 42 inchers in the first place).
So yes it is a very good deal. Even if your parents do not like it you can sell it on eBay and I am sure there will be a lot of takers. Hell I might even be interested in buying it at that price:D

Hello everybody

i brought a 32" VIZIO TV HDMI LCD screen television from BJ's and took it to india. i have been trying to all cable, digital, Dish.... even converter too. but i dont know the reason it is not working. all technicians says it is PAUL etc.... can any one tell me how to use this TV working in india.

Please help me to fix this problem, otherwise i have to throw that TV.

regards,
Ram

Anything that uses the tuner part of the TV will not work here. Other parts will work if it's a "multi-system". All TVs sold in India and most part of Asia-pacific are multi-system. In case this one is not, you are out of luck.

Just try to connect any device, even a simplest one is good enough to test, with a composite output and see if you see something on the TV. If you don't, you are out of luck.

Hi All,
I too have bought a visio xvt323sv 32" from US. Trying since last couple of months to find out a way to make it work.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Ram - how did you finally make it work ?

thanks
