I have been following these forums for a long time but am a novice when it comes to practical experience.

I was looking for a budget stereo amplifier as my philips dvd player which i used as my amplifier decided to die on me finally. (sort of glad it did as it finally gives me incentive to buy something proper hyeah

I was looking for 2nd hand options when I was offered a deal for Denon avr 1910 + Focal sib & co 5.1 speaker system+ some pioneer blu ray player for 25k (means have to stretch my budget a bit :sad. All components are around 3 years old.

Due to my cluelessness about anything HT, was wondering if the deal is worth it.

I am planning an audition this weekend. Would like some suggestions and inputs about what to look for while taking the audition.

you haven't mentioned the model of pioneer player.

denon 1910 as such was around 35K - 40K when it was launched - I have Denon 1610 that I bought for 25K when it was launched then.

Speaker set - model is not shared/

doesn't sound like you are taken for ride, seems ok only to me.

you might want to decide based on the listening experience.

The gentleman didnot provide any exact details.

For speakers he just mentioned Focalaudio sib & co.

The Focal Sib & Cub is a very good model. My son use to own one before and I liked it. The pricing seems to be a fair one. Just check the working condition of the Denon AVR , its HDMI inputs and output . Also the Subwoofer of sib & Cub. If everything works fine, its a good buy.

Check all functions of the AVR. Crank up the volume and check the Focals. Price seems fair provided everything is in proper working condition..

If it is the one I heard about, haven't seen it. But was told that its in good nick. Ask to see the original bill/invoice.

Issue is the only other HT i have ever heard is at a friend's place with pretty high end Onkyo receiver, Wharfedale fronts surrounds and centre and a mammoth SVS cylindrical sub which pretty much shakes things up(quite literally). Cannot really draw a baseline from that.

this is something you only know , whatever is your favourite song or movie clip or instrumental, etc - you should try to play it in this AV receiver with the said speakers and see how it sounds to you - then you should decide.

I am not sure how can one guide on this. It's purely individuals preference - what appeals to you may not appeal to others.

One more question. Pure sqwise will this setup be superior to other new HT setups which come around that range e.g yamaha yht-299

hello,

please check the below in case of denon avr.
1. Whether all the hdmi inputs work.
2. Whether playing pen drives work using usb port, incase model support it.
3. Whether avr goes into standby when you switch of and switch on continously.

Incase of speakers, check for physical damage and any distortion on high volumes.
