Okay I know we are all told not to use this stuff but I played a 1974 copy of an album today that was in terrific condition with the exception of a low range "wow wow wow" sound on every revolution. I was going to return the record but I thought about using the banned substance. So I had already washed the disk with water and washing up liquid so I wet the disk again and used the smallest squirt possible of WD40 on a soft cloth and cleaned the whole record with it. The offending sound has gone and the play back is immaculate. Surely such a highly diluted solution could not damage the vinyl? Like aroma therapy for records!

Welcome to our forum.
WD40 is a huge NO NO for vinyl. It'll leave a residue on the surface which will surely damage your record and stylus.
