So there's this pen-pal of mine in Germany. He has a transrotor turntable. A couple of pictures of his TT and setup :

I tried to search over the internet but could hardly find any info about Transrotor TTs. Even he doesn't know much about it apart from the fact it looks so damn nice! :ohyeah: So does this perform as well as it looks? This TT is priced at 5000 Euro. What makes a transrotor TT this costly? What type of TTs are these? They look like belt drives to me. I'm assuming they're 'modern' TTs. Are these better than the classic Garrards, Linns, Technics etc?

Does anyone here own a transrotor TT?

not my info. picked up from a website. Transrotor is a company name..

"Transrotor was etablished 1973 by the German "Pope of Turntables" Mr. Joachim Rke. He was the first who used the revolutionary new material Acrylic-Glas for the turntable and the first to introduce a physically separate motor unit. His main principle is to design turntables that can be easily upgraded. Besides his exceptional talent in creating sonically pure turntables, they are just aesthetically breathtaking also."

Modern high end belt drives have a different sound compared to vintage. If you listen to one, you'd know in an instant.

As for the cost, well that is the price to pay for a high quality German product.

Engineering and production in small quantities is always going to be expensive too, and the more expensive, the smaller the market, and so it goes on.

Would high-end turntables be pretty-much hand-built anyway?

@theironhorse and @reuben. I've seen that info on the internet. What i was wondering is why there aren't any technical specs of these TTs. Like wow/flutter, rumble, etc. No such specs are mentioned anywhere (the brochures available on the transrotor website are not for public it seems). Only the weight is mentioned.

Here's a video i came across just now about transrotors :

How would you rate a vintage belt drive to a modern belt drive?

Sir,
I am going to go a bit OT - hope you will accommodate;
I do know TR rather well & have been listening to them for 12 ++ years now..
However, I am not a TT man so I do not want to get into specifics of TR.
What is interesting is your German Pen Pals set up.
I am unable to place his Electronics.
What is he using ?
Where are his speakers ?
Can you please let me know - what all is in use - shall appreciate the input.
If you have any more pics - please do put them up.
BTW - I find RT to be one of the BEST - VFM - TT Makers in Europe.
They bring tremendous value to the table.

I just love this TT - If I played the TT Game - this would be my Euro Table of Choice..

He uses AudioValve amps (phono, preamp and power)..along with Triangle Magellan Cello speakers. Have you used vintage turntables as well? How do they compare with the transrotor ones?
