What to buy to play .mkv without conversion

I have bought a Wharfedale DX-1 and denon 1713. I also have a sony TV 46HX850. I am confused about what player to buy for 5.1 movies. (Mostly .mkv and variations)

My options were Sony Blu Ray player BDP-S490 / Asus Oplay mini. Please make suggestions. Does TV also send DTS by return ARC?

S490 can play MKVs without any issue. If you have subtitle already muxed/ embedded in the file, you can also have the option of displaying the subtitle if you wish. It's up-scaling facility can give a much better picture than a media player. Of course with media player you can play whole lot of other files, which I think may not be possible with S490.

Till you buy a player you can also use your laptop if it has a hdmi output

Bought a bluray player S490. Even managed to play 3D mkv.

Congrats !! Enjoy the great PQ. Only downside is that it can't be made region free for BDs, but can be made region free for DVDs using an Universal Remote with magic button.
