Hey guys

My band is going into the recording studio this month to record our debut album. We released an EP last year on CD only and it did pretty well for an indie release. We're going to step things up for our next release.

Being the vinyl fanatic I am, I want to get the album released on vinyl as well. I guess it would be a super limited run, maybe 100 copies, but I definitely want to do this. I am exploring some options online, mostly from the US.

Does anyone have any idea what would be the best place to get it done? I guess from what I have gathered it would be about $1000 US to press about 100 copies, with just the vinyl and paper inner sleeve. I will probably get jacket printing done in India itself. So I gues i will probably have to spend Rs 60-70k incl shipping to get the records here. Which I am willing to spend.

Has anyone here pressed their own records before? If anyone can point to to the right place I would be grateful!

Also, when the vinyl does eventually come out, I hope some of you guys will pick it up to support the scene :)

Hey Tek,

Sounds pretty exciting man... Getting your own record out would be cool. Ok just a proposition, if you would like to get your album art, inlay covers, website designed, do let me know. I and my friend are into it. Just did it for this Delhi band called TATV.

But anyways, all the best for your project !!

cheers guys, my band is called Slow Down Clown. We just shot our first video and it should be going on Vh1 in the coming weeks, so if you guys watch that channel you might catch it ;)

As far as pricing, what I can see is that i will probably have to sell it at around Rs 1k per LP to pretty much break even. I don't expect to make money off it, but I do want to at least cover the bulk of the investment. We're also recording with a producer who's been in the biz for over 20 years, so he used to master for vinyl back in the day. I will def pick his brain about what the best way to go about it is. I also feel 100 is quite a lot to press, but at the same time it's not an impossible amount to sell either. Our cds of our first EP sold out of the first 250 copies and we had to get more printed. The EP cd is available from Rhythm House and Flipkart if anyone wants to pick up a copy :P But I digress, the current options i'm considering are United Pressing, Rainbo Records and Gotta Groove. Will def keep you guys posted on the process

Lol, yep although i think our album is going to sound pretty different from some of those videos, we were just figuring stuff out as we went along.

As a side note, here's a vid they posted about my record collection on NH7:

Nice :clapping:

And appropriately holding Blonde on Blonde :ohyeah:

Judging by the response here, you might want to get a few more than 100 pressed...and put me down for 1...

All the best!

Edit: Just checked my copt of B on B and guess what!!! I have the one with Claudia's pic on it :D ...but mine is a Holland pressing, they apparently retained original gatefold art outside US :(

While I am still waiting to find a good place to get my records pressed, I thought I'd let you guys know that my bands album just got released yesterday! It's available right now as a free download. If you're into digital, download a FLAC version and let me know how it sounds on your rigs. It was pretty well recorded IMO, so hope that comes through. It's an alternative rock album, so if you're not a fan of the genre you may not like it, but it may be worth checking out :)

Thanks Tek for sourcing your album. ALthough the download speed is slow, I will try to get it. Would definitely hear the album & let you know my 2 cents feedback.
Few years back, even our band planned to release 2 albums...never happened anyway...the recordings were confined to family & friends only:sad:
That was hindi, pop/rock kind of. One was for christmas exclusively.
Still have the recordings...not a pro work but still sounded good by the standard of equipments we had. I played guitar & lent my voices to some songs...good old days you remind!
Thanks anyway for the link. All the best for your success.

Regards,
Saket

Wish you all the best!

May I ask where and by whom (which studio) the recording was done? If the recording wasn't good to begin with, vinyl wouldn't do much except making it accessible to TT owners :)
