I am now considering the NAD 557 BD instead of the Cambridge Audio 650 BD. It will go with the NAD T 775 AVR and Mordaunt-Short Mezzo speakers -- 6, 5, and 9.

Any views/suggestions?

I was told that NAD receivers can be upgraded easily with new codecs.
ie-like PC cards can be changed for newer auio codecs if any.

Now I learn that the Oppo BDP-93 is excellent and will hit our shores anytime. Rs 40,000 or so. It seems it is better than the NAD and CA.

I have mentioned this before, but paying 40,000 for a Blu-Ray player is downright idiotic. For that price you can get a full media player that can torrent, do BD-Live, network... etc, etc and have Blu-Ray player too.

Cheers

Yes, the technology is called the "MDC" Modular Design Construction, due to use of this technology a NAD AVR/Pre post T765 series can never get obselete as you can simply plug in the new board with the new advanced features to upgrade your AVR and then you just need to upgrade its firmware with the latest version and your AVR/ Processor is as good as the new and upto the standard of the latest tech.

Here Oppo at 40K makes a lot of sense due to the its Multiregion capability with both Both Blu Ray as well as DVDs, also its a full fledged media player and as its specs says that this time the newer model also supports NTFS through USB which lets it stand very close to a decicated media player platform. Also the felxibility of having everything in one box makes it a very stong competetor. As not everybody is comfortable with HTPC platform so for him/ her Oppo BDP 93 is a fantastic option with state of the art upscaling engine and support for each and every disk format.

I agree with your views.

Does oppo make multiregion capability officially or you have to get the mod kit and DIY? Which voids the warranty :indifferent14:

DIY is a kit which need no soldering & can easily revert the changes & warrenty can be asked for.

Hi, will I need a media player like the Ixtreamer if I have the Oppo BDP-93?

There is another thread which has more info.

Agree with ashish. From the specs it seems that it will do everything that an Xtreamer can do plus play bd, cd,sacd etc. Even I am waiting with the same question. We'll know when once it is released and reviews are out.

Ixtreamer is a media player with an additional feature of a dedicated dock for your ipod, an Oppo is definitely out of the question if you want to play the contents of your Ipod the way iXtreamer will do, so a comparison is baseless.
Also as everybody knows that I have an Oppo BDP 83, so few days back I performed a small experiment and installed Mezmo DLNA server software on my computer and after that I could play everything through BDP83 over the network, even Apple Lossless files which was really surprising.

So as Santosh said lets wait and watch till the player actually gets released and then only we can find out the true capabilities of this new player.

40000 only to play bd dics its expensive for an indian wallet, may be features like 3 in 1 like movies ,games ,media storage makes ps3 a good choice for me..........

My argument is like this. You can get a BD drive for 5K. You can get a GPU for 5K. Add another 20K for a system that can do all the networking and other activities that a BD83/93 can do. After all, the BD players are integrating into a networked system that is the basic function of a computer.

So for 30K I get more features, true HD Audio and 1080P, much higher resolution, etc. And region free is not an issue with software. So unless a BD player provides all these features for 15K or less, it does not make sense to me.

Cheers

Thanks. Could you please configure it for me with names of brands? For example, will IXtreamer (Rs 18000) + Sony Playstation suffice?
