what is the budget? Sony, Yamaha, Onkyo make good AVRs but not speakers. You should go with some better speakers. Also look at Denon and Marantz receivers.
Depending on your budget for speakers some of the good names are wharfedale, polk audio, boston acoustics, monitor audio, paradigm, etc........You need to find the best match for speakers and receiver. Some AVRs go well with some speakers.
Onkyo 3400 is a great HTIB system, only if you are on a tight budget. If not, then suggest to go with the above systems.
