Hi All,

Budget is 30K + a little stretchable. I have auditioned the Music Hall MMF 2.2. However, Rega RP1 seems to have great reviews. Haven't auditioned it. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Rega RP-1 is a great choice for the beginners. Easy setting up and a decent sound for the budget. You may like to change the mat though.

Do you already have a phono amp or an amp with phono?

At this budget you may like to go for a used route and there would be many options.

seconding TaureanBull, i would suggest going with the Rega..it is good as it is and if you do feel like upgrading there is a path for that as well.
Do budget for a good cartridge and Phono as well..i am assuming you will go with regas cart.
For a phono do consider Virens Phono OR Trigon as an alternative to Rega ..i have been impressed with both.

Have no experience with Project or Rega myself, but if you are going the used route, Technics direct drives are good for a start (however these are hard to come by).

i was advised to wait for the project debut 3 carbon. so as of now there are three options. (i) Rega RP1 (ii) Project Debut 3 Carbon (iii) Used (this option provided something affordable and good comes along the way is supposed to be the best).

Chindaluru,

The arm on a rega is not adjustable for height so you're stuck if you have to do some adjusting if you want to swap cartridges. Unless you spend much more for something like a vtaf which allows you to adjust arm height, which on an entry level table gets expensive. Also the rega apparently runs a bit faster so sounds more exciting and a bit bright, the project is more natural and warm. Both are equally well made however in my opinion the project is a bit more open to easier to make upgrades down the line.

However if you have 30k look at a technics 1200 second hand.

Regards

If you are willing to take the risk of international shipping, a used one off e-bay or some of the well known international forums will give you much more value for your money.

I also can recommend Rega turntables. I recently bought an RP6 and i'm really happy about it.

I suggest to spend rather in a good cartridge. I use an Ortofon Black.
