Hey guys,

Why i dont see anybody posting about PS3 as a good potential BD/Media player. With the latest firmware update releases it has done, it is good option as far as the price goes(My Opinion). It is also a good gaming machine.

Am i missing something here? Please help?

Regards,

Sid.

BD players are around 9000 and consume like half the power of the PS3. Also, they read things like external hard disk media. Unless there's a gaming use case somewhere in there I don't see a reason to buy a PS3. Now if the PS3 were 9000 bucks, that would change everything..

ps3 used to be a very good option when bd players were expensive. Now a days, bd players have come a long way and the prices have fallen a lot. if you are not into gaming, ps3 is a very expensive bd player and not a good choice.

The ps3 does consume a lot more power than a stand alone brp, but i feel the device is simply a gadget freak's dream. Its an all in one and provides the best of all the entertainment worlds, albeit with some limitations. The internet capability and the dynamic nature of the platform keeps it growing. Its the one electronic gadget i haven't grown tired of in 3 years, as i continue to find new things to do with it, least of all gaming. Set up a DLNA server with windows media player from your system on a wired connection.
Put some effort into organizing your content, and you will have eliminated at least 3 gadgets minimizing clutter.. but then another school of thought is the horses for courses one... well the ps3 come pretty close to the all in one dream .. but in the end of the day dedicated blu ray players should have some specialty. Finally you can play assasin's creed on it as well and uncharted!!!!

PS3 cannot be made Regfree so far,but certain BDp can be.

Not only that, it does not play the locally purchased Star Trek Region 5 DVD, for some reason  - at least my Region 5/C Phat PS3 cannot play it.

Frankly, I don't understand Sony. The BDP-S370 can play MKVs and is region free for DVDs. I can't see why Sony couldn't issue a firmware release for the PS3 that would enable it to do the same.

Thats the policies almost all companies follow. You can say a marketing gimmick. If all the features made available in single unit, how can they increase the sales of others? They will enable certain features and disable few. Its the end user who has to decide the priority. You will find it everywhere. In Tvs, DVDs and what not?

Who says people are not talking about it? Have you tried google for it? There are literally millions of hits on the very topic.

Hi All,

After a lot of searching and reading on the internet this is my opinion. Kittu Thanks for the link it helped me.

If u want a hassle free solution then Media player is the best.

Coming to BD player i found that if u have a good PC Core 2 Duo or higher and convert it to Server then nothing beats PS3. Only thing is your PC will be ON all the time when u play the movies from the HDD. That's okay if u are simultaneously downloading the files on the PC which i think most of us will do. So for more 10,000 Rs is it worth having a game system. By this i mean if i am already spending 10,000 Rs on a BD player and for the next 10,000 Rs i get a game system is it worth the deal?

Hey there are some postings on the net where the player can be made region free. Search google.

Hey Bansal98, I had searched the net and like you said there are a million sites. AVS has more than 500+ pages. My query was regards to this forum.

Regards
Sid.
