Hi! Need some tips from experts here.
I want to cover an area of 2000 sq ft (100 mbps broadband). Carpet area is 1600 sq ft, with multiple rooms divided by siporex walls.
5 years back have covered a similar area elsewhere with a Linksys router & 3 Netgear 300 mbps extenders.
Should I get something similar or go for a mesh network. Any/all tips appreciated with brand names (model no pref) & approx budget (upto 15k)
Thanks!

If you can afford it mesh is better. But will be difficult to make it happen in 15K.
Else go for a good dual band wifi router + repeater.
2.4GHz gives better range and wall penetration; up to 2 walls
5.0GHz gives lesser range and wall penetration; but higher transfer rates when in line of sight or 1-wall separated.
Try to make wired connections to PC, AVR, TV, streamers, etc
Use WiFi only for light activity.
Cheers,
Raghu

Getting Netgear Orbi for around 15k on Amazon & from reviews its said to cover around 2500-3000.
Tp link Deco 1200 is approx similar price.
Any thoughts

Mesh routers ideally should be a triad. Orbi, I think, comes as a pair. TP Link is a triad.
Decide on how many wired links you need and then choose the correct router.
BTW, the range specified is usually w.r.t to western homes that have very few brick walls.

Disclosure:
I don't own mesh routers, but know their strengths and weakness from work experience.

Cheers,
Raghu

I have struggled with 1500 sq ft area and wireless extenders. The better solution is to use wired APs/ routers in each of your rooms (connected to your main router/ modem). Each AP/ router can then help the devices within that room/ section of the house. This will be much cheaper than mesh or expensive routers. Only pain is running the LAN cable to each room. Just my opinion based on experience/ limited knowledge of the subject.

Thanks @Amarendra, I had this option as well & will probably go ahead with this too now as the whole place is broken down currently.
Will use the ceiling to run the cable as @Naturelover suggested too.
Its Gigabit btw.
This can be treated as a back up otherwise too in case of problems with the mesh network.

hai please let me know the budget i will suggest some good products..
keep in mind your placement of wifi route or access point is a key factor for your coverage and if you are adding a mesh access point keep in mind that it uses 5ghz link to communicate between those access points so you will get only 2.4ghz speed so always try to do wired access point..always try to mount ap in your ceiling as it will give you the best coverage angle...
Consider the below product it is a AP bit expensive and very good its a enterprise product so u may not heard of it..
i am network engineer by the way and we deployed around 100's of these Ap in our client place and never had a issue so far some running 3+ without a reboot...

Netgear Orbi RBK20-100INS Tri-Band Router Home Wi-Fi System (White) https://www.amazon.in/dp/B07D961XT2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_sevVCbXVASMPB

TP-Link Deco M4 AC1200 Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi System (3-Pack, White) https://www.amazon.in/dp/B07L45LZP5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_KjvVCb1981AQH

Either of these? Or am I missing something. Thanks again
I have used almost all Top end routers from Asus and netgear costing between 12 - 20k for my 2600sft house in the last few years.
The patchy network coverage inspite of two sometimes 3 routers was quite worrisome.

I switched to netgear orbi, 2 years ago (RBK 50) and haven't been bothered by the Network coverage issue ever. In fact my apartment being in 2nd floor I can access my wifi from cellar and parking as well. The 4k streaming works fine , I'd gladly recommend it to anyone with more than 2000sft or two floors to cover. If you can afford go for RBK50 model instead.

The only downside is the usb port on the router works for printer sharing only not for file sharing.

I agree with the options what others have specified, however if I may ask before you spend on 10k+, what are the devices you intend to run in WiFi and what would they be accessing the internet for.

Hi the budget is 15,000/- to 18000/-. This does not include the cat 6 wiring I’m running all over now.
How many of the model’s that you have recommended would I need to cover the area, (1600 carpet)?
Thanks for the input, appreciate it!

Orbi is what I was leaning on till I created this post. Nice to hear from a satisfied user. Will look into the particular model. Thanks!

Haha good question! This is actually a guest house with 6 rooms for upto 12 people (students mostly). Based on that I guess usage will be the usual general surfing, Netflix etc.

Your cat6 network is the best investment. If this is for guest house with multiple tenants then you would need throttle control to ensure one person's heavy use does not make it worse for others, more widely known as QoS settings which cheap ones also offer.

As such, cheaper floor wise 1-2 WiFi routers would also be good each acting as a access point. You will be done in 6-8 k max. But yes pro products are more suitable for 24/7 operations. If you know you will have 100% occupancy all time on all floors better to go with pro products only otherwise save some money

Also do you intend to reuse the WiFi or your network cables for cctv cameras too? I want to advise creating redundancy and have separate cctv wires to respective DVR.

Hi,
that's a very good budget u can go for unifi or orbi ..
try to go for ceiling access point as it gives you more coverage than table placed..
by the way 1600sqft is single floor or multiple floors?
since its a guest house as you mentioned unifi also can run a hotspot on its access point and u can control user activities with a UNIFI controller..
Basically their wifi controller software is free and u can host it in a PC or even u can install it in a RASPBERRY PI..
U can go for Unifi AP AC LR one is enough if it is placed centre hall ceiling mounted or else u can go for Unifi AP AC LITE 2 pieces
Remember you need a basic router to assign ip address for your clients as unifi is only a access point not a router..tplink or dlink wifi router will do the job,if u want to go for good Ethernet only router i recommend you to go for a brand called Mikrotik model-Rb750gr3.
u can run multiple networks with a same router since you told its guest house even if your home or office network is connected with it , you dont want them to sneek peak into your network ;)
FYI: Mikrotik also have wifi products but its setup is bit tedious for starters not good as Unifi wifi products.

Thanks for the detailed response, once again, really appreciate it.
Will look into the above as suggested by you, the Microtic router actually sounds perfect. Have about 2 months in hand before I can actually install the modem/mesh etc so will order these from Amazon & try them out. For now, getting the cat6 cabling completed, would have skipped it if not for this thread.
(Its a single floor btw).
Will bother you again if I need any further info.
