will Yamaha HTR-3066 support Yamaha 8390 Tallboys?

I have yamaha yht299 HTIB. While buying my Ht, i saw Yamaha 8390 tallboys separately attached in marantz AVR. 8390 is capable of 8ohms. But my AVR is HTR-3066. It supports 6ohms. In its manual they showed pictures of some tallboy spkrs attached with 3066. Now i want to know will my 3066 has the capacity of giving much output to 8390? Reply me friends. Becz Now im ready to buy 8390. So kindly giv me som suggstns. THANX.

Hi

The Yamaha HTR 3066 is 100w per channel @ 6 ohms and delivers almost 70w per channel @ 8 ohms...

The Tallboys 8390 need a nominal input of 70w @ 8 ohms...it should work...go for it.

It is better to ensure that your AVR is kept in a place with good ventilation...or else put an external fan.

Yesterday i contact Yamaha Music Square Chennai. I askd about the support of htr 3066 to 8390 tallboys. They said some technical terms and finally said 'no'. In addition they said that htr3066 will not support any tallboy spkrs. As i have a desire with tallboy spkrs, I am frustrated after hearing this. My fate..

don't be dishearted. The Technicians could be right. Based on technical aspects available, I did check all the details for the amplifier and speakers and don't see any immediate challenge in using them together. It could be possible that Yamaha Music Square Chennai just brushed you off as they either were to busy to help or just had a bad day....

You can ofcourse to be double sure do some research over the internet and see reviews / videos.....there also could be some thread or post on amplifier speaker matching available.

According to my knowledge and experience as a DJ and user, there is no issue in using the same. A small cooling fan is recommended to keep the AVR safe.

today i went to yahama show room and they confirmed that we can use Yamaha NS8390 speakers for HTR-3066 (YHT-299). testing of few music was good to hear as well. They were offering for 18,000 pair.

Where did u see the demo of 3066 with NS8390? Once I experienced the demo of 8390 with a marantz avr. How os ur xperience?

I had the demo here in Bangalore in one of Yamaha exclusive showroom. The sound is good and so was the bass effect. But it seems that the price is high for the quality it gives. I am now interested in pioneer sf 52 jones. It has good reviews on net. I got confirmation from a dealer that it would be compatible with our avr. But haven't gone for the demo yet.

Did you get a chance to demo the Bookshelf speakers of Pioneer sf 52 jones? I am very much interested in the tallboy speakers but I have space issues. Just curious to know the performance of the bookshelf version of these speakers.
