Hello
I have joined new here but following this site from last 2 3 months. I have gone various threads. Earlier was confused Whether to go for media player like xtreamer, Blue ray player and cd player for my setup. But reading threads i came to conclusion to get myself a HTPC.(hope i am right) I will using it 50% for music and 50% for movies. Movies and music i will be downloading for internet.
My total budget for HTPC will be around 40 to 50K (50 at the max) I will using it for only Dedicated theater purpose. I have gone through many sites and intel based HTPC are recommended over amd. ( need advice on this) I need help and advice on confugration for a QUITE and musical HTPC. I have got marantz 6003 AVR.

one of my friends have media player XTREAMER. sound quality was not so good when playing FLAC songs even his pioneer 410 dvd player was better playing audio cd so i have dropped the idea of getting a media player. istead of getting a dedicated CD player and bluray palyer i thought of HTPC as it will play all files. I hope A good HTPC (for 50k) will play same as dedicated cd player of around 20k. correct me if i am wrong. Thats the reason i am bit inclined towards HTPC. I have some confugration in mind like

mother board -ASUS M4A78-HTPC/RC (but this is based on AMD)
sound card - asus hdav 1.3 deluxe around 13 k

I have seen thick wire used inside HTPC foe connecting devices to motherboard. so i was wondring whether these connecting cables are special for htpc or they are regular.

I was going to ask Piyush to Pm Spiro bhai and thevortex, as they both are using Xonar DX as source. But Spiro you came in promptly as usual.

Piyush, what about the HTPC case?

Actually iaudio I use the Xonar D2X.

Piyush - the HTPC is a moody animal. It cannot be matched by solutions such as Popcorn Hour or Xtreamer on their own. Not by a long way. But then those other solutions are much more user friendly. You must know this before taking the decision.

The Intel solutions do not hold a candle against AMD based ones when it comes to HTPCs. The new 785G based solutions are outstanding motherboard kits and do NOT need external graphic solutions to serve as high quality 1080p video display units.

The latest and best solution for a HTPC is the new 890GX chipset. That combined with a comparatively cheap dual core processor should form an awesome combination for HTPC purposes.
