I got my yamaha 196 installed at home yesterday. I played it for 2 hours and when i check the receiver it got heated incredibly and looked like about to fire. Then when i check the manual, it was mentioned that there should some space around the receiver for the ventilation, so that receiver wouldn't get heat. Now in my home, i placed the receiver in a rack that's in my tv stand. There isn't much space around the receiver, hardly 2 or 3 centimeters.

Now my question is, do i need take out the receiver and place it outside with the enough ventilation? Is that the space issue got my receiver heated heavily? Do you people ever faced this issue? And whats the ideal place to have my receiver at? Is there any fan kinda thing inside the receiver to cool it? Am so scared now.

AV receivers will generate heat/get hot and that is absolutely normal . What should be taken care of is whether you have provided enough breathing space for the receiver. Most importantly donot cover or block the top of the amp which can fry the receiver in a matter of time.

The best option is to keep the receiver in open space ensuring proper ventilation. In case you want to keep it inside the rack make sure you have minimum 6 inch space available on the top. I own the YHT 196 and due to space constraint I had to keep inside the rack with only 3 inch space on the top and about 8" space on either sides. It was running hot with the front open and the back had a little opening for wire outlets. I finally cut open the entire back end portion of the shelf and since then the heating up issue has drastically reduced.

Also please keep in mind that the heat generated is also proportional to how hard you are pushing your amp. For example playing a 5.1 action movie driving all channels will definitely stress your amp. Also remember that Yamaha YHT 196 comes with passive sub and low frequency reproduction drains a lot of power from the amp.

If you keep it in rack with space around,it wont heat that up.Try AVR keeping out on ground and check.

law of physics.. while converting one form to other as i mentioned on other thread.. heat will generate. no running away from it and yes it does get pretty hot.

use 2 120mm pc fans with smps or whatever size u like for cooling if you want to keep it insidde that will help reduce temps however cool air and good ventilation is needed for proper cooling. so either give it good space to dissipate heat else get into proper diy cooling :)

there is no fan kinda thing inside.

keep it on the top so there is no blockage on the top grill and it gets cool air either from AC else fan or atleast room temp air to cool down.

in a closed cabinets is like you wearing a leather jacket in a closed warm room.think bout it .. there is no moving fan inside us either :D

Keep your AVR on top of the shelf, you can also remove the rear panel of the TV rack.
If placing AVR is not possible, then you have to think about a new rack or rearrangement.

yes either open space..or diy cooling(needs air passge in cabinet..maikng holes)

or both..

opening rack from back is one alternative however all the avr's including 196 has n number of holes on the top plate for ventilation which can be used with forced cooling of 2 120mm silent CM fans..

then crank it as you want :)
