I have a budget of around 30ks. I listening is both movies and music (classic rock).
Now, should I go for Onkyo 3300 (safe bet) for around 24ks, and add Jamo floor standers later, or should I go for Yamaha rx-465 AVR, and add floor-standers and surrounds?
Please advice.

IMO..

"Yamaha rx-465 AVR, and add floor-standers and surrounds"

if budget is tight..then add only floor-standers..then add center, surround and sub later..

hdmi 1.4 in onkyo doesn't seem to be useful..
yamaha receiver is better for music compared to onkyo 3300 receiver..

ya ya, that's what I meant, floor standers first, surrounds and subs later...

Anyways, so what you are basically saying is the 3300 reciever in inferior to Yammy. Thanks.

Can you please suggest a decent 5.1 speaker set along with the Yammy AVR?

depending on your budget you can choose

- mission 5.1
- wharfedale movie star 70+
- energy TC 5.1
- polk audio rm6750

Yamaha 465(18k in Mumbai)+ mission MVDS spk pack(35k)=53k can be better option than Onkyo as you may need better speaker later.
AVR of 3300 is lattest & 3D ready,but speaker....

Thanks a lot people. I think I'll finally audition these and decide. But generally what do you think about the idea of upgrading the 3300's fronts with floorstanders later?
