I own yamaha rx v681. At present I am using full hd tv on hdmi out. I am planning to buy 4k tv. I notice that in information and video output the 4k is greyed out. is it because I don't have 4k tv on hdmi out? Which means yamaha detects that the tv on hdmi out is 4k capable? Not sure. Any help please.

Hi

I am sure there would be some guidance in the owners manual of the avr or the trouble shooting pages....check...

Yes, it auto detects the screen resolution thru hdmi and selects the highest common resolution of the source and your screen.

Hdmi works as a handshake. Source and destination talk to each other and set the max supported resolution. Hence, once you get a 4k capable display, your receiver will automatically scale up.
