Hi all,

I have recently bought Yamaha YHT-200 HTiB - thanks to the advice on this forum. It is a really good system overall for my requirements and have been enjoying its sound quality :)

I have one query - can someone who owns it confirm if the serial number mentioned on the box of YHT-299 matches the serial number mentioned on the back of the AV receiver? As per the dealer, they do not match as the serial number on the box is for the complete package - which includes the AV Receiver with its own serial number and the speakers with their own serial numbers.

It does make sense, but for the sake of peace of mind, I would like to confirm from other owners here.

Thanks !!

Even am waiting for YHT 299 :).. Not sure why the waiting period is too much for this model. They say YAMAHA is not shipping that model.

Yamaha is launching an "updated" model for YHT 299 - the new one is YHT-2910 (check on Yamaha India website for details) - as far as I can tell, there are only very minor differences with one downside (atleast for me) - the new one has only 1 optical input port while 299 has two. The dealer also told me that the new one will see a price rise of 5k to 7k. My recommendation is to grab the YHT-299 while stocks still last :).

I will look forward to hearing on the serial number difference from other owners/soon-to-be-owners...

Hi Maverick,

Well, I have been using YHT 299 for the past 9 months and I am very happy with it. I have never checked the serial Number thing. I will check it out and confirm it.

Thanks,
Sandeep.

Thanks Maverick. Thats a good update.

Generally speaking the AVR and HTIB box serial numbers are different.

The HTIB serial number is for the entire package and the AVR has an individual serial number and so do the speakers and subwoofer.

However, I do not know if Yamaha follow the same nomenclature.

Hi Maverick,

I have verified the serial Numbers of the box and AVR and both are different. So, I guess its not an issue. Do let us know your experience on the system. Did you use YPAO for calibration?

Thanks,
Sandeep.

Thanks for confirming Sandeep! :)

Experience thus far has been really good - very nice sound with good balance of thump from the bass (thanks to active subwoofer) and the clarity of higher frequencies! I am coming from a Samsung DVD home theatre before this so for me the difference in sound quality is quite large am=nd perceptible!

I really like the Cinema DSP setting for listening to casual music - fills the whole room with music and the volume can also go very loud! And having built-in support for iPod means that my long neglected 160gigs iPod is now seeing fair usage...

As of now, I have not yet used the YPAO - the person who installed the system had done some setting and they 'feel' okay for now. However, I do plan to note the current settings and give YPAO a try just to see how it fares and if it makes any difference.
