Looks like just another HTiB package :)

It's like brother of YHT-196 with active sub and 4K ability, rest spec is same as YHT-196.
1. Speaker package is just average. Only advantage is active Sub
2. It's still Mid level AVR (HTib)
3. Don't expect much advanced features like Blue tooth, Airplay, USB, Network radio etc.
4. Price is lucrative, think of it if it's in your budget.
5. Yamaha Brand value is there compare to other competitors.

Hi, what about the speakers of this when compared to YHT 2910 keeping in mind that YHT 299is being discontinued..

Yamaha introduce YHT 1840 on the year 2017

I want to purchase, I like it's technical specification and product is within my budget(Rs. 33000/-). But i am not experience a Demo of the same.

Anyone have any idea of it's sound quality.

our any suggestions for other product as same price tag ...

Hi, I am planning to buy this home theater. Can anyone please confirm whether this receiver support Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio?

It supports only DTS HD but not Dolby TrueHD

Thanks for the reply. Can I get these codecs working if my blu ray player able to decompress them? I have read an article regarding this. Please find it below,

Code:
Decompressing in the player

Home theater amplifiers don't evolve at the same rate as other electronics, and usually an amp that was good five years ago is still good today. So we understand that people can be hesitant to replace their AV receiver just to listen to the latest codecs. Luckily, most older receivers still have HDMI (pre 1.3) or discrete analog inputs (6 or 8). For this reason, having an HD movie player that can decode internally is advantageous, as it will handle the latest codecs and allow your older amp to just take the signal and amplify it for your speakers. The other advantage to decoding in the player is that if discs were authored with the advanced authoring method, the player can mix interactive feature's sounds with the regular audio from the movie -- things like beeps from the menus and directors commentary can fall into this category. If you decode in your AV receiver, you won't be able to take advantage of the additional sounds.

I read most of the responses. Then thought of answering, based on my (re)view of the product.

I was looking for YHT196, as that was a stretch of a budget (INR 27k then) for me. I had auditioned Logitech Z906 (why this? may be some other day) and YHT196. Any time of day I choose YHT196, for its clarity. Z906 had deep and room filling bass, but that was it. YHT196 has as pure sound as you may get at this price point. Major drawback, according to me with YHT196 is, low bass. But no complains there, it's very natural.

Sadly, YHT196 prices kept rising, and currently it has hit 34k mark. I thought, my dream would remain a dream.

Couple days back I came across YHT1840. Now, spec-wise comparing YHT196 with YHT1840, here are my 2 cents:

  1. The AVR has 4K pass through and ARC on HDMI output
  2. Speakers are NS-PY40 as against NS-P20
Above are the major differences. The ARC and NS-PY40 matter most to me. NS-P20 are sealed speakers, whereas, NS-PY40 has speakers from NS-P40 package, which are bass reflex front and rear speakers. Center in NS-P40/PY40 are sealed. Difference in NS-P40 and NS-PY40 is, P40 has active subwoofer, which is YST-II type. NS-PY40 has passive subwoofer, which essentially, can't be YST-II.

All-in-all, YHT1840 is way better than YHT196 in terms of specs.

My friend had auditioned NS-P40 speakers, and as per his observations, NS-P40 outperform NS-P20, even when electrical specs look similar. I think, it's mostly due to bass-reflex design.

Anyways, my YHT1840 is in transit. :yahoo: I bought it from Snapdeal instead of Amazon. At the time of purchase, Amazon was selling it at 32k and Snapdeal at 30k. Cheaper than YHT196, which always, is out-of-stock. Frankly speaking, you won't get better deal at this price. And I bet you, if you wait, prices are going to keep rising.

For now, that's all. I will post a detailed review, once I listen to my own set of speakers.

It does not have Bluetooth support.

Snapdeal's was a mixed experience. The shipping details did not reflect in the order list until 2 days before delivery date. I had almost cancelled the delivery, but then thought of giving them a chance. And then it was showing directly that the package is in distribution center in my town. Finally I received the package a day before promised delivery date.

could you please tell me your YHT1840 buying experience from snapdeal? also is possible can you give brief review. today i ordered it from snapdeal but want to know your experience from them.

About the review, I'm not there yet, that I can post a review. I haven't installed my system properly yet. I need to mount the speakers in their optimum Home-Theater position for lively experience. I just have 3.1 connected, they too are sitting on TV unit (3 not .1 ;)). So sound comes from under the TV, rather than from the TV. So, I'll just give you an overview on improperly setup system's sound experience.

Satellites:
The speakers are really good, thanks to bass-reflex design. They are surprisingly light for the size. I don't really believe full-range speakers can really deliver full range, and I'm quite right about that. The highs can be better. They don't miss anything, don't get me wrong. But I've Polk 2-way speakers in my car and these Yamaha can't match them. But off-course, those Polk costed me 10k a pair, so no comparison there as well.

Sub:
The sub is reasonably deep. Again, positioning matters a lot and I am not done experimenting yet. It is really good for 30W RMS. (Never raised volume above -7dB myself. And that too, to check how loud I can survive, not the speakers. I'm not a "watts" guy.) The YHT-196's sub was very tight. YHT-1840's sub is a definite winner. It goes reasonably deep. Also note, I never had to raise level on AVR for sub. It matches the paired speakers perfectly.

AVR:
The AVR is matched perfectly with the speakers. You may keep the default levels for all output channels and have nothing to complain. I always keep the Extra Bass (or whatever it's called) thing on. As it is, AVR performance never matters much when you have satellite speakers - anything can drive them. Drives external passive sub perfectly and I'm happy that it has power as well as pre-out for sub (future upgrade yay!) It supports everything that I really need.

So, to conclude, you can't expect anything better for the buck. It is way too better than YHT-196 and hence the wait was worth. I'm going to write my own review, once system is properly installed. Until then, I hope these observations are helpful enough for the readers.

Have u checked about warranty while purchasing from Snapdeal?? On some forums it's posted that online purchases are not covered by Yamaha

Simple technique I follow to make sure to authenticate purchase is, register the product online. If that works, you're safe. If not, return the product.

Hi Akshye. Hope you are having a good experience with the 1840. Even I'm planning to buy it from snapdeal. Can you please mention from which seller you bought it from snapdeal ? It's some 2k cheaper than in amazon. But I am a bit sceptical about the seller. It's written as Yamaha yht 1840 DVD home theatre . Don't know why. I am even interested in buying the YHT 2910, which is quoted for 38k. Strangely it was called as blu ray home theatre. Amazon quotes it for 42k. Please let me know about the seller. Thanks in advance.
