Dear All ,
Finally i purchased a Yamaha YHT 196 to team up with Sony 48W700 C .The below is the connection which the installation guy did

TATA SKY HD STB HDMI Out to HT HDMI in
XBOX HDMI out to HT HDMI in
HT HDMI out to TV HDMI IN
Optical Out TV to Optical IN HT

Is this the optimal connection ? I am not able to hear properly from non HD channels and also from movies played from USB in TV .The primary use is watching movies from USB and Playing games from XBOX .

Regards,
MR P

Your connections look fine except for the "Optical Out TV to Optical IN HT" which I think is not required.

I assume your Sony supports HDMI ARC (look for "ARC" in any one of the HDMI IN labels). Your Yamaha HT receiver supports ARC in one of its HDMI out.

I do not have two ARC compatible devices so have not tested this but from what I have read, when both your devices support ARC, any content that you play directly on your TV will output its audio through the HDMI to your receiver. you do not have to run separate cable from Optical out to Optical IN.

Ensure your HT HDMI OUT is connected to the TV HDMI IN that supports ARC and change the settings in your TV to output audio through HDMI. This should make your TV content audio pass through to the HT.
