Xtreamer Media Player (XMP) Owners Thread

I did not get the point.. why not pay for the license (or whatever legal hassle it is) and offer the promised feature to the existing customers.. giving discount on new product sounds fishy..

This is another gimmick by Xtreamer to lure us as buyers, I went through the specifications of the Xtreamer Pro and there too its clearly mentioned that they have applied for the DTS HD MA liscense which would be updated by the future firmware and as we all remember that the same kind of promise was made while selling the original Xtreamer, so I don't find a point here to go with this new unit as an upgrade. For anyone who is looking for a new Xtreamer then in that case its a great buy otherwise our old units are more than capable here.

I am thankful that you appreciate that. What all you say is fine. It is not a bad product given lack of avr capabilities etc. But that's not how it was meant to be when it was sold. So there is going back on promises, and false advertising. I just read their blog, and there are more people saying the same.
You have shipped it to my work address and you very well know that I do not work for a competitor to write negative feedback. In fact I have absolutely no financial interest in any kind of hifi. It is just out of my love for av gadgets and music that I am on these forums.
I feel cheated. The amount of money that was charged was not so big that I can not forget about it. It is just the feeling of being cheated. You feel cheated when an auto driver takes you for a ride through longer route and charges 100 rs extra. Is it too much an amount? No, but you do feel bad, feel cheated and are ready to fight for that 100 rs.

Thank you anm for your suggestion.

We are committed to our customers to whom we have sold Xtreamers. And to provide support to them, we are with Xtreamer.net. :)

It is not a bad product after all. As per the feedback/database of our Indian customers, just 5-7% miss DTS-MA/Dolby True-HD. Most of them dont have Media and AVRs to decode that.

About the quality, many forum members have bought from us, we have not received a single unit becasue of any harware problem. So far, in last 5 months, we have received just 2 units where user was not able to select the right option or a firmware update was required. Any member can come up if we are claimimg anything wrong.

So, we are happy selling Xtreamers.

But anyways, there is message in your suggestion that you are our wellwisher no matter what you feel about the product. That is really appreciated. :)

Yup, sounds fishy. Makes one think if the hardware on XT-1(the original xtreamer) itself was capable of playing these formats.

Hi Xtreamer:

Here is my suggestion and offer. Since the chipset of Pro and the previous version is same, having discussed all the facts, why dont you release a firmware version for a nominal cost, say $20, to enable their old xtreamers to have the HD audio capabilities?

If Xtreamer is not coming up with something like this, it surely is going to lose its potential customers.

Because a company cannot expect its customers to dump the previous version and go for a new one for the same features which should have been present in the previous version!

Cheers!

The product is excellent , unfortunately the policies they are adapting to are poor.
They can apply for license and charge minimal amount for the firmware upgrade.
They should live up to their commitments rather than stuffing new products down customer's throat.
Surprisingly the chip set being used is the same so it is not a hardware issue but a firmware fix which should be able to resolve the issue.

The Pro may be good but it is huge and heavy once you add the hard drives, plus everyone may not want to use such a big box in their setup. As compared to xtreamer it is huge.

Hi folks,
I am new to this forum and based on the reviews I am kind of finalized on Xtreamer. (I am not so keen on Xtreamer Pro features, unless you recommend me to wait until it's release).

Now the important question is, How to purchase this item in Bangalore/India? What are the options for me? Could you suggest?

xtremer pro is on the way...i wud suggest to wait as it is supporting 2xhdd (3.5 in)

also memory have been increased to double the previous of 128..worth spending 200 extra for that...as it will meet your long term demands

Thank you folks!
Today I bought Xtreamer from their Bangalore dealer(ABSOLUTE PHASE(+91-80-2532-7496)). They delivered it at home and accept cheque payment. Cost was Rs.9.9K with free wireless.

I am yet to try Xtreamer with an HD LCD.

I connected Xtreamer on a regular Analog TV(Panasonic/PAL/4:3/non-progressive) and tried to play an AVI file which was created using VirtualDub(i.e. DV captured from Sony Handycam). I think xtreamer is playing the AVI file but I am getting a "blank screen". Why is this? Any settings issue?
I will need this scenario working because I plan to take xtreamer to places do not have LCDs.

I am able play the same AVI file on a computer without any issues. The captured videos converted to Mpeg format played ok on Xtreamer.

Any idea why is this? What is the solution?

Hi All
Another feather in xtreamer cap, yesterday i played cars blu ray HD movie and i must say it played awesome and i am very happy, couple of months back i had tested few blu rays files i was able to get my hands on and they played well.

Finally i was able to get the dump of entire blu ray movie and i played the same.
Through lan also it worked well, did not face any issues. Best part was the latest firmware update 2.2. Which has the ability to play the entire blu ray folder properly and you dont need to play each file one by one.

Last but not the least for anyone wondering about the size it was 46 gb

Thanks Dushie. I have not yet ventured into anything via Network yet. I have the etrayz but have not gotten down(lack of time) to configuring it with xtreamer. Have you hard-wired it? If wireless, can you confirm if you are still using a 'G' router?

I did not play though wireless, as i have the lan cable connected to the xtreamer, which connects to my WRT54g and my pc is also connected to the router.

I played the blue ray file from a shared folder from the PC and did not face any issues.

Not using wireless anymore as i am using the antenna in another PC in the house for which i don't have wired Lan connnection

Guys,
I tried playing HD files over wireless LAN and I did notice stuttering.
The files that I tried were very small in size. I am yet to test a very large file.

I have found a very good solution to play even full Hd files wirelessly through Xtreamer which are stored onto my etrayz. I have an etrayz which is connected through Gigabit Lan with my Linksys WRT610N dual band router which has two bands i.e 2.4Ghz and 5 Ghz . In this case I am using the 5 GHz band to wirelessly stream contents to my Xtreamer from etrayz. Now here is the catch since Xtreamer's wifi antenna doesn't support 5 Ghz band so I have bought an Apple airport express which has dual band capbility and I am using it as a wireless bridge to connect with the Xtreamer on 5 GHz band which gives me speed upto 300mbps wirelessly, but Xtreamer's ethernet port only supports speed upto 100 mbps. I am able to play any file of any capacity through xtreamer by following the above mentioned route.

Thanks Dushie, zoey and all the people who guided in making my decision to buy xtreamer.....Had a demo at my place (ver 2.2)

Some +ve :)
- Played +90% media files.
- resolution and clarity was to the point.
- Fan was not a problem

Some -ve
- Wifi was not working with laptop wireless, 'll try once again later.
- Its stand is not very stable
- Unit hanged once initially
- Picture slideshow was not upto the mark (i hope some customization can be done, 'll chk later)
- It was not identifying .srt file in the movie folder. I guess the names of the movie & sub file should be same ('ll chk again, some guidance would be useful)

None the less xtreamer seems to b a nice machine with this price tag.
Happy xtreaming
