indian bluray discs

few weeks back, i saw only sony bluray discs in my dvd rental shop. now i see blurays from other companies as well : reliance, excel, disney and even moserbauer.

hope the price of bluray discs come down due to competition.

disney is selling alice in wonderland for like rs 700.

Wonder how well Bluray will scale with 2160p, which will probably require 4 times as much space. Don't think Sony really tried mass adoption for Bluray media, they just wanted it for movies.

i bought some blurays from amazon.co.uk where the average bluray disk costs like 10 pounds - which is like rs 650. even with some import duty it should not go beyond rs 800. so it is encouraging to see alice in wonderland priced at rs 700.

I also bought some blu-rays from Amazon.co.uk which they sent through ordinary mail (Royal mail), I did not go for express shipping because if you pay 20 pounds for shipping, getting it from there is not justified IMO.

I bought Spiderman Trilogy for 23.88 and Planet Earth for 17.90 which were dispatched on 13th & 17th June respectively to my Gurgaon address which I never received.

I bought couple of more which were dispatched on 19th June to my friend's Delhi address which I received on 26th June.

So, a loss of Rs.3000/- approx. :sad: and

Last year also, I bought something from ebay.uk which was dispatched by UK Royal mail which I never received. Luckily, the seller was nice enough to refund my money.

So guys, the bottom-line is, if you live in Gurgaon never ever try to get any valuable from abroad or from within India by mail (department of posts, govt of India), prefer courier only and if you feel courier is expensive, just leave it.

i got the BBC Life and Planet earth combo blu ray from Amazon UK and had no problems with the delivery. Life Blu ray is amazing and probably the best Blu Ray material you can get now. I dont know if these BR's are yet availbale in India. You all shoud try it.

I also received it exactly after a week at Delhi address.

In fact I have bought Planet Earth again on 9th July and it was dispatched same day. Now, I am hoping to get it around this weekend.

Interesting - I bought Alice in Wonderland BD at around that price - came with the same movie DVD free - in India at Odyssey shop in Mumbai. It plays well on my Indian PS3.
