Hi guyz,

I have bought a 40 inch C550 samsung. I have lots of SD movies in DVDs and I wanna view them in my TV. For this, I wanna buy a upscaling DVD player.

My budget is 4.5k to 5k. Just suggest the best I can get, no brand name matters for me.

The player should support all the general formats and it will be better if it has an analog 5.1 audio out coz I wanna hook up my Creative Inspire 5.1 with it.

Please suggest the best.

Thanks.

get a philips dvdp for 3.5-4k that will have a hdmi connection to your tv as well as will do upscaling.. or opt for a pioneer..dvdp however they might not play all the formats..

if u have movies in hdd then rather go for a media player. else dvdp

Both Philips and Sony has DVDP with USB, HDMI and upscaling features. The philips player supports almost all formats, while the sony has very limited codec support. Both the players are placed at 4-5K range, the philips is slightly cheaper than the sony.

Pioneer also have a model with the same features and it has got very good reviews, but they are hard to find.

Currently I am using the Sony DVP NS728HP player. Except the limited codec support, they are good.

Mostly, I will watch DVDs with .VOB file format. The upscaling capabilities should be good.

For media on HDD, my tv supports even .mkv file format. Hence, that should not be a problem. I just wanna watch my SD collection DVDs using the player.

Please suggest some model numbers.

BTW, I have a deal on EBAY.IN for an Pioneer DV 220 for 3.5k. Is it good enuff for my needs?

There are also two philips models:-

1. 3568 - 4.4k
2. 3588 - 5.5k

Also got an offer of NS728 for 4.2k.

I am confused which one to get. Pioneer 420 V-K is 7k and thats out of my budget.

Please help me out.

what do we mean by all formats. ??. there are many and many formats in which
audio and video are encoded.. no dvdp plays all formats..

Yes, I understand that there are so many audio and video formats available. But I wanted to tell that philips has more codec support compared to the other common DVD player brands. "The philips player supports almost all the formats a dvd player usually supports."

Sorry for making the confusion.

I dont think any DVD player will be able to play usual HD contents in mkv format. For that purpose we will need to invest in a separate media player.

yep.. we got it.. normal dvd players will play divx formats... and through usb wit fat32 format..
new ones are giving ntfs support as well.. however mkv and others are still dreams for the dvdp..

Get a Pio 420 model friend. I am gonna visit SP road/ national market some time soon and get one for myself. :yahoo:

So I can get the DV 220 right? That will support all types of DVDs? I repeat, I need support for all types of DVDs not media. My TV is sufficient for that. But I have lotsa DVDs which I want to watch on my TV.

BTW, is investing on the Philips models that I have mentioned is worthy enuff? I have a local Philips dealer just beside my home.

Iam not sure how good is philips model. I have one which did go fine for 1 year and then started the usual dvd player problems like tray get stuck, lens cleaning. (My usuage was approximately 30 movies max a year) Is it because its sub 4.5k model? Some times it did play scratched dvd's, but ultimately iam not satisified. (Not that iam discouraging this brand, but my experience with philips)
Other philips owners who have it running successfully even after a year or so can update.

Phillips 3568/94 can play divx files through USB and also does upscaling. I saw this model on sale at Vijay sales for 3100/-.

Ok, I just ordered a Pio 420Vk for $80 from amazon.com. It will take 3 weeks to reach me. But the point is I dunno how but I got selected for free shipping.

Hence, I have to pay no shipping + handling charges. Its too good to believe
