I am planning to purchase a new 22/24 inch LED monitor (with LED back lighting). AOC e2243fw and viewsonic vx2250vm are found cheaper in the net. (local availability not yet checked). Any member of the fourm is using these ?.
Any suggerstion on other Full HD LED monitors below Rs.10000/- also invited.
Is there any monitor with direct TV connectivity from a DTH box avialble ? ( presently I
am using a tuner card to watch TV)
Intented usage is browsing / office related works / some gaming / some TV

thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply. I am now looking specifically for LED monitor, due to the significant power savings. The TV function is of secondary interest only. I found both are ordinary LCDs.

LG has a few monitors with TV function. Price varies between 10k to 15k

LG M237WAP | 23" Flat Screen LCD Monitor & Monitor TV - LG Electronics India

LG M197WA | 19" Multi Function LCD Monitor & Monitor TV - LG Electronics India

If your DTH box has HDMI then buy a monitor with HDMI input.

If you have a HD set top box it will have HDMI out. Use this for HD video. Other wise you can use the video & audio out rca connectors for SD video. Ordianry set top box will give you either composite video or component video out.

To use the signals you need a monitor with HDMI & additional composite video in connections.

You should look at onida LED tv of 24" size. It has LEd side lighting, Full HD & 10W speakers.(cost around 22K). In all other computer monitors you will find sound lacking. I know as I am using a Benq as an interim measure.

Alternatively 24" full HD lcd tvs are available from Phillips (at croma for 16k) or Onida (also 16K). Worth the extra over a lcd monitor.

Thanks for the suggestion. But I found while searching in the net that most are not in favour of using LCD / LED TV as a monitor. ( I also found that the brightness of a TV is more than that of a monitor (may be because TV is watched from a distance). if any other members are using TV as monitor please comment.
While checking the specifications, I also found that some monitors have the facility of rotating to a portrait position. I think it is a useful function as most of my use involves documents ( word / pdf) and net browsing. I invite opinion of other members on this also. ( and availability and price also)

Thanks in advance.

Using lcd tv as monitor can cause some problems. lcd tvs do not have a wide range of resolution. So if you set any other resolution in the pc than the native resolution, some times the display will go blank and there is no way to reset the resolution from the pc. This happened to me. When my acer lcd monitor went kaput, i used my panasonic lcd tv through the vga port. As the resolution was not correct i tried to change it and it resulted in a blank screen. Also i was not able to install windows xp using this monitor as there was no display due to resolution conflicts. So check before go for lcd tv as monitor. Also lcd tvs can cause eye fatigue while working close to the display.

Can I use a LED monitor(with HDMI input) as tv by connecting it to HD satellite box via HDMI cable? For example , LG E2360V monitor.

Yes, it could be done. In fact you can attach any device with HDMI (e.g., PS3, Xbox, Blu-ray player) if your monitor has HDMI/DVI inputs.

There are some discussions on the net which tend to suggest that LCD/LED monitor displays better PQ than the same size TV at that too at a lower price.

Can you provide me with some information and usage/problems regarding HDCP? If my monitor supports HDCP, is there anything to worry about? Does this feature bars a monitor from being used as tv using HDMI connectivity?

No there shouldn't be any problem as long as you are not trying to record the programmes. High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDPC) is there to check unauthorized copying, it won't create any problems if you don't have any recording device attached.

Check out these if you can afford it. Available from Delhi Distie
