hi,
I need an urgent advice. I have a suzuki swift and have the following car audio already installed:

1) Head Unit- Sony Double din
2) Front speakers- JBL coax, 6 inch, 50 w rms speakers
3) Rear speakers- Pioneer coax, 5 way, oval, 100w rms speakers

I am looking at enhancing the sound. I am looking at clear sound with good bass.

I am looking at an amp wit a sub. following are the options, which one do you think will be advisable:
1) buy a 2 channel amp and connect to sub
2) buy a 4 channel amp and power the sub and front speakers. the rear speakers will be powered by the head unit
3) buy a 4 channel amp and power the sub and rear speakers. the front speakers will be powered by the head unit.

I have a limited budget and hence the above options only pls. I am looking at quality sound , good bass. i listen to primarily rock music.

1) buy a 2 channel amp and connect to sub
2) buy a 4 channel amp and power the sub and front speakers. the rear speakers will be powered by the head unit

Either of these should be good. Preferably the 2nd option.

Definitely NOT the 3rd option.

anstri if its bass that you need on the sound stage then you need a good pair of components speakers. The sound delivery from components is unbeatable in terms of the mid bass and vocals.
My advise, try and save a few more quids and buy a good pair of components, instead of doing this in haste. You can pick up a good set of component speakers for a shade above 6k. Those front speakers can do you no good. If you let us know what your budget is , we can actually tell you what to look for.

1) buy a 2 channel amp and connect to sub
You will need a really powerful 2 channel amp to power the sub. Monoblocs are best , however they dont come cheap.

2) buy a 4 channel amp and power the sub and front speakers. the rear speakers will be powered by the head unit
3) buy a 4 channel amp and power the sub and rear speakers. the front speakers will be powered by the head unit.

Like hydra said these two makes sense, but again I would say save that extra money and pick up a good pair of components for now. Install them with a 4 channel amp.
Drive the components and the sub with the amp for now. When you have saved some more , pick up a powerful 2 channel amp/monobloc and run the sub through that.

What I have learnt is that , in the world of ICE decisions made in haste never gives you what you look for. They never sound the way you want it to and you end up going for an upgrade in the next 6 months again.

thanks for the inputs. this was really helpful. to start of with if i take the following, do you think it will make sense:
pioneer TS-WX303 as the sub and
pioneer GM-3400T as the 2 channel amp to power the sub. the website says this amp matches the sub.

I have a maruti suzuki swift, and its an old one, so not looking at investing much. i understand monoblocs are the best, but frankly dont have the budget for the same.

The other option is to take a blaupaunk 4 channel amp and power my sub and the front speakers. but only doubt is the jbl, 50w rms speakers will not be able to do justice.

look forward to hearing from you

See if you can get a preowned mono for the sub. Lot of upgrade freaks out there selling their old monos and going for high branded stuff. :)

If you really are interested in good soundstage and actually not a boomy bass. Look for BOSS slimline 10" woofer. It fits right under the navigator seat and tap it to your front speakers connection (it takes high level input).

Amazon.com: Boss BASS1200 10-Inch Low Profile Amplified Subwoofer with Remote Subwoofer Level Control: Electronics

then move bass from the head unit low, so you have very negligible bass going to your main speakers. Turn up the volume and enjoy.

I have a basic panasonic head unit with boston Accoustics sl65 4.5" in front and really old 2003 kenwood 6x9's and the BOSS woofer, soundstage is amazing. I haven't heard the xenos thing selling.

If you don't want to lose your boot space. This is the best way to go.

hi,
as many suggested earlier to your query, replacing the front speakers with a decent component speaker would improve the highs and mids.

go for a 4 channel amp to power the components and the sub.

i have recently replaced my basic front speakers(boston) to components (infinity)and installed 4 channel amp(jbl) and sub(infinity) and trust me it improved the quality of sound quite a lot and i enjoy the music than ever before.
mine is an old car and i would retain this set up if i am going for a new one :yahoo:

so invest in a good set up so that you wont feel to upgrade in few months.

thanks,
Dijeesh.
